Pussy Willows and a Poem "Laughter" by Hafiz

Are pussy willows found all over the world? Many grew near my childhood home in Wisconsin, and I treated myself and bought two bunches at Trader Joe's. My friend told me they last a very long time if you do not put them in water, so I am doing that.

They are so soft, like velvet, like a kitten's paws, a bunny rabbit, or like my dog's ears.

Terry Hershey in his email newsletter "Sabbath Moments" (I get his newsletter for free every Monday) quoted Hafiz, a poet from Iran who wrote in the 1300s.  I found a poem by Hafiz I like and here it is.

LAUGHTER

What is laughter? What is laughter?
It is God waking up! O it is God waking up!
It is the sun poking its sweet head out from behind a cloud
You have been carrying too long, veiling your eyes and heart.
It is Light breaking ground for a great structure
That is your real body, called Truth.
It is happiness applauding itself and then taking flight
To embrace everyone and everything in this world.
Laughter is the polestar held in the sky by our Beloved,
Who eternally says,
"Yes, dear ones, come this way, come this way toward Me and Love!
Come with your tender mouths moving and your beautiful tongues conducting songs,
And with your movements - your magic movements
Of hands and feet and glands and cells - Dancing!
Know that to God's eye, all movement is a wondrous language,
And music, such exquisite, wild music!"
O what is laughter, Hafiz?
What is this precious love and laughter budding in our hearts?
It is the glorious sound of a soul waking up!

Hafiz's poem is as true today as it was in the 1300s! Lovely!

Here in Ohio, I cut pussy willow branches and use them to make Easter Trees with dyed egg shells attached to the branches. I do put mine in water where they grow roots. Then I plant them at the back edge of our property. We have lived here a long time and they have grown into big bushes and trees. I love pussy willows!

When I lived in Oregon, I bought a willow bush just so I could have pussy willows in the spring.
Thanks for your comment on my blog. I loved hawks, too.

I have always loved pussy willow. They grow in Vermont, but I have not seen any in Florida.
I asked Google and this was the answer: Pussy willows could survive nicely in north Florida, but we do not have enough dormant period for the plants to do well. If you want to plant them anyway, give them a northeastern exposure and water with ice water December through February. This may help to simulate cold weather.

I almost bought pussy willows yesterday at Traders but opted for tulips instead. Now I wish I had bought both! I hesitated as they were in full bloom and worried they wouldn't last. Tell me how yours do ok?

I made the mistake of putting pussywillows in water and was so disappointed when they didn't keep. The next year I kept them in a jug with no water and was able to keep them for a number of years.

My grandmother lived near the river banks of the Arkansas River and as a child we took many walks and the pussy willows grew close to the water. I always loved them and loved the legend associated with them.
The poem was a wonderful share and I thank you for sharing your own singing with the dog stories. I love that you read the bible. I have done that with the grandkids so maybe I should try it with the pups and my cat. He is very anti social sometimes but not with our 2 1/2 year old grandson Blake. He loves him.
I love visiting you and apologize when I may late coming over.
Have a wonderful SONday.

There are a lot of pussy willows in Sweden, a sign that spring is on its way. So delightful. Thanks for the poem.

I've yet to see pussy willows in the store but I did see daffs, which is always a good sign! I'm about ready for spring NOW!

Pussy Willows! I don't think we have those in Texas but I'm certainly going to look for them at Trader Joe's next time I'm there!

I love pussy willows that also grow in the ditches where I grew up. I came over from Hilary's blog where she posted on Maps. I read that you used to deal with old maps. I have an old map, on a cardboard on Germany between the wars. I am unsure what to do with it but my mom hung on to it for as long as I can remember. Could i donate it to a library or museum. I am just wondering.

How I love the pussy willows! We find them now here in Bavaria, too, and I put last Saturday some into my church and some in front of my house.

The poem about laughter is very very wonderful! VERY WONDERFUL!!

Last year I put pussy willows in a vase with water which I changed every week. After a long time I noticed they had set out roots. I gave them to my cousin whose own bush/tree had died. She planted them but I don't know if they have survived their first year in the ground.
