Annie Johnson Flint, Gifted Poet and Blogging Question

 

I recently discovered a poet and hymn writer, Annie Johnson Flint, who wrote deep and yet easy to understand poems. Her book "He Giveth More Grace" contains 100 poems that are a delight to read. On Kindle her books are about 99 cents, a bargain price. Above she is in a wheel chair due to extreme arthritis from a young age. She wrote by hand with hands terribly twisted and painful from arthritis.

Annie lived from 1866-1932. After treatment when young at a sanitarium she moved in with a family named Flint and became part of their family.

Above is the book "He Giveth More Grace" that I bought, these 100 poems are all appreciated by me; here is one of them:

Thy Strength and My Day

Give me Thy strength for my day, Lord

That wheresoe'er I go,

There shall no danger daunt me

And I shall fear no foe; 

So shall no task o'ercome me,

So shall no trial fret,

So shall I walk unwearied

The path where my feet are set.

So shall I find no burden

Greater than I can bear,

So shall I have a courage

Equal to all my care;

So shall no grief o'erwhelm me,

So shall no wave o'erflow;

Give me Thy strength for my day, Lord,

Cover my weakness so.

Annie Johnson Flint found her inspiration for this poem in Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them; for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee."

When I face challenges, which happens more and more now that I am a senior citizen, I love these reminders of good courage, "there shall no danger daunt me".  Well, the words are helpful at any age.

BLOGGER QUESTION. How can I add those little buttons some of you have with each of your posts so that people can click on a button to leave their opinion? Buttons that say Like, Funny, or other comments. A blog friend asked me to add this feature and I can't figure out how. I hope one of my helpful followers will enlighten me. Thank you blog friends for letting me know that this option of buttons that say "like", "funny" etc. is no longer available on blogger. 

Also, something awful has occurred, my blog roll has disappeared! I loved that list of all the blogs I follow, and I used it to check out blog posts if I haven't seen a post from a favorite blogger in a while. Very big loss for me!

I've been thinking about how much I enjoy visiting blogs, and how we are giving our blog buddies a peek into our lives. Isn't it fun to have these glimpses in to other ways of living?

Blogs are educational to read too. I am not a practicing artist and not too crafty but I like reading artists' and crafters' blogs and even get an occasional idea that I can do. Keep it simple for me though!

One blog friend shares the cutest photos of her goats and chickens.

I live in California and share garden ideas and occasional photos of my area here, and I like to read about my blog friends' lives in Canada, Europe, Great Britain, India, Australia and just down the road in California on the coast or up on a mountain.

Sometimes we share humor, yay, or insights about Jesus.

We share health and other problems and folks pray along with bloggers who need prayer. Well, that's all of us, I think.

The best part of blogging, for me, is that it makes my world a bit bigger and more friendly.

Hi all,

Little ol' me has 2 blogging questions and I'm guessing some of you will share solutions with me here.

Hope, hope, hope.

As you can see, my questions are for blogspot blogs.

First, can I turn off comments to an older post? A spammer keeps commenting on two old posts and it would be nice if I can turn off comments, just on those two posts.

Second, how do you all get pretty borders on your blog, as opposed to my plain wide edges?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Writing Book Recommended

I mentioned that the Christian Writer’s Market is a great resource for writers, at any stage in our journey. I wanted to tell you about some of the features the compiler, Sally Stuart, offers each year, as a new edition is published. The 2008 edition I ordered hasn’t arrived yet, so I am looking at my 2006 edition.

Writers today have to familiarize ourselves with the business side of writing, in addition to learning top notch writing skill. The days of Henry Thoreau, or Jane Austen or Leo Tolstoy, when writing talent alone sufficed for acclaim and selling books, are long past. We need to know about the dreaded field of marketing ourselves, for heaven’s sake.

I, for one, would prefer simply to write, and submit queries to magazines and book publishers.

Sally Stuart’s CWM 2006 offers info on topics including Blogging, Find Quotes, Book Reviewers, Ethnic Writing, Christian Writers Conferences, Area Writers Groups, Book Promotion and beyond.

Most writers today feel they need a blog and a website, and they are wise when they decide to create these. This does take time away from writing, but is an important piece of the puzzle of being published and selling what we write.
