Have you read that book, or others by her? I read a couple of her books and found them entertaining, perfect reading for the sadness that sometimes arrives. My friend texted me that "we widows have a hard time in this pandemic with isolation." So true.
Do you sometimes hear about someone you would like to know more about? When I read that Cadell was born in Calcutta, India in 1903 that sparked my interest. During WWI she went to London to prepare for a career in music, but decided to return to India where she married and had two children. Widowed ten years later she returned to England.
Cadell wrote 52 humorous and romantic novels, and her daughter is bringing them back to readers by publishing them. Cadell's story was not over; in 1960 she moved to Portugal. I like her spirit of living in different countries. She wrote many novels set in Portugal, lived there for 29 years, and died at the age of 85. She must have been an adventurous woman; I haven't found a memoir or biography of her.
Rumer Goden is another author whose writing I admire, who lived in India and the UK. Any authors whose personal lives you find fascinating?

I don't think I've seen any of her books or even heard of her before. She sounds like such an interesting person.

I’ve been focussed on Paul Kalanithi’s book, When Breath Becomes Air. It has preoccupied my time, a short but powerful read about living and dying with cancer.
The cover of this book looks wonderful and like my kind of reading. I'm going to search it out. Yes, I have a favorite author and that is Gladys Taber. She wrote about her property she named "Stillmeadow" all the time. Check her out... I think you'll enjoy her. ~Andrea xoxo
This is a new author, who is an author who wrote prolifically. I wonder if her children books would appeal to some boys who live on the other side of the world.
John LeCarré (David John Moore Cornwell) is one whose life I find interesting.

I really liked reading about Cadell...she had an adventurous spirit that I admire and I don't think there were many like her during that time. And yes, I do find that learning about the author just satisfies my curiosity bug. I want to know everything (I check Wikipedia), and I also like to see other books written by the author.
I hope this craziness ends soon. But cheers to good reads!

Oh I adore Rumer Godden particularly In This House of Brede. Not familiar with Cadell though.
Never heard of her, I think. I just finished reading a book that is part fiction, part biography - about C.S. Lewis. (Once Upon A Wardrobe) I'm planning to write a review of it on my blog but haven't found the time yet. I really loved it, though!
the writer you mentioned dear Terra sounds fascinating to me ,yes i either loved her way of life and how she spent different periods of her life in different counties .i think this may have enriched her skills to write even better :)

I have read many of Elizabeth Cadell's books. I enjoyed nearly all of them. Sun in the Morning tells of her childhood and young woman life in India. Diary of a Portuguese Bride is on my kindle - a sort of journal she might of kept leading up to her marriage and 1st year of married life. I loved The Corner Shop, The Toy Sword (Portugal again), Canary Yellow (murder in the Canary Islands), Brimstone in the Garden (the Devil makes comments), Mrs. Westerby Changes Course (ends with a death). Come Be My Guest (Portugal or Spain) had the most humor in it!! My husband actually read it, and laughed! He never reads chic flicks. I really enjoyed Cadell's books.
Currently I am re-reading Grace Livingston Hill's books, the ones where she writes about living a Christian life. I like those a lot. I think the best ones are Brentwood, Happiness Hill, and The Enchanted Barn.
