My sweetheart Will and a note I found today, Chichen Itza and Merida

Here is a photo of Will and me in Palm Springs in 2004. That was a fun trip, Will took his mountain bike so he could ride every day in nature. I took books so I could read and a swimming suit so I could swim in the motel pool.

Below is a photo of a note he wrote for me.

I have lots of books in boxes, some of them because I am redecorating a bedroom from carpets to walls painted to a new bed. I bought a new hybrid mattress, foam on the top and inner springs too, supposed to be very comfy and sleep inducing.

I looked through a box of books today and found this sweet note from my husband Will on the cover of one of the books. This is my sixth year of being a widow and it was uplifting to get this note from him. The note reads "Excellent book, plus has some of the places we've been."

This note is one I will treasure forever, with the book. Will and I had 47 happy years together, 45 married. We had many adventures along the way, including hiring a jeep and driver to go to temples and ruins in the Yucatan jungle near Merida, Mexico. In Merida we had met a young couple from France and we enjoyed their company and we split the cost of hiring the jeep and guide with them. We climbed up a steep pyramid in Chichen Itza, with few tourists around. This book includes the Yucatan cities. Good memories. This "Green Dreams" book covers that area of the world.

Below are photos of Chichen Itza in the Yucatan peninsula of Mexico, near the Gulf of Mexico.

I don't recall too many restaurants from our travels, but one in Merida, Alberto's Continental Restaurant, stood out. It was in a hacienda with Moorish arches and total charm, built in the 1700s. The food was excellent, Lebanese, Yucatecan and Mexican. We loved the lime soup and Lebanese food. Alberto was a charming host, but sad to say, he closed the restaurant when he was in his 80s, back in 2013. So this isn't a place I can suggest you visit. Good times though.

Finding a note from my husband led me to write this post, taking me from a note to the Yucatan, in a trip down memory lane.

I climbed up that pyramid in Chichen Itza too! Walked up those narrow, shallow steps but came down using the "sit and bum your way down" method as recommended because they were so impossibly narrow and steep there was a real danger of falling.

What a wonderful memory and that note is a real treasure.
I enjoyed this post because when I was about 7 or 8 I went to Mexico for Christmas with my parents. We visited Chichen Itza and Merida. I remember climbing those ruins. It was quite an experience.

What a lightful and loving a trip down memory lane.

You and your husband Will look so VERY happy and VERY beautiful! A wonderful couple!!

What a big loss, and now you already are since six years alone, but this notice in the book is living like an actual message from him to say you, that your love is never ending.
I think he still is proud of you being so brave and trustful in the LORD and Will looks from heaven and is holding you somehow with his loving hand.

Hi Terra~

What a wonderful experience to find that sweet note. I don't believe in coincidence, so I think you were meant to find it when you did. I love the photos of the two of you and your adventure in Mexico, you are a very cute couple! My husband and I will have been married 47 years in April, I can't imagine losing him...my heart aches for you. But, I know that he is there, still loving you, still helping you when you need him. I know these things to be true. Thank you for sharing such special memories and photos with us...I really loved this post!

Gentle Hugs,
Barb

Oh Terra, you and Bill had some great adventures together. Six years! Wow. Has it been that many? It is almost two years of widowhood for me.....my "forever love" died in July. I'm still reeling from his not being here to hug and kiss. Very difficult to be facing all alone. Sighhhhhhh. So glad you found that book with the note. That was very quaint. Thanks, too, for your visit and comment. Susan

It is amazing what we can find when we start moving things around or organizing what is usually hidden away. Bittersweet, I'm sure, but lovely to find his handwritten note that prompted so many memories. A walk down memory lane must have been just want you needed. :) Take care.

How wonderful to find that precious note! And the memories it holds for you of fun and adventurous and love-filled times. Isn't it like an almost real moment, practically hearing them say the words they wrote. (I found a handwritten note from my dad in his Bible last year that I hadn't run across... I could almost hear him speaking through it.) Blessings to you, Terra!

You have brought tears to my eyes with the picture of your beloved's note. I cannot imagine how it made you feel, but what you wrote gave me some idea. What a happy picture of the two of you together! How good of the Lord to give you so many fruitful and blissful years together. xoxo

Dear Terra, thank you for taking us along on your trip down "memory lane." It's so fortunate that you have many happy and fulfilling and adventurous memories to look back on--ones you spent in those 47 years with your husband. And to find his note is truly to have sort of what a friend of mine calls a "God-wink." You're being watched over. Take care. Peace in these troubles days--we need to share the peace within us with others--as you did with this posting--and hopefully the "ripple" effect will go out and out and out to the shores of all humanity.

those little notes, tucked away from sight, are such comfort to find. I have the letter my hubby wrote when he proposed to me. (he was about to be sent to Korea and was away). It's things like that, that bring all those memories flooding back. Love and hugs.
