I am a bit late to this game, I now get free library books using the Libby app. I can choose any book the library owns and Libby loads it onto my kindle, and I think the books load onto laptops and maybe iPads too. My sons both like the audio books Libby also supplies. My sons tell me that listening to audio books prevents eye strain from too much computer use, and is ideal to listen to while driving.
Monica from Beyond the Lone Islands blog mentioned this Elly Griffiths series and I thought I would buy the next one I want to read, which is number 6. Then I decided to get it from Libby. So easy. There are 14 books and counting in this series so I can save quite a few pennies by using Libby.
Ruth Galloway is the main character and she is a forensic archeologist, examining bones from archeological digs and bones from crime scenes when the police need her help. She has interesting friends including the policeman, Nelson and a druid, Cathbad. Ruth lives in a very remote house in a remote and darkly beautiful area near the sea. Sometimes this remoteness leads to danger for her, but she dearly loves the place. If you have not started this series please begin with book one since there are events happening in Ruth's life in those early books.
Do you use Libby or your library's equivalent service? Very convenient and free.

I am a big baby about new things. I did download a kindle on my laptop and have all kinds of free books stored. But I really like holding a real book and turning real pages. Thank goodness for libraries!
Using Libby will be a fun addition to summer reading. It sounds wonderful.
Love getting Kindle books for free from my library and its library partners. Only wish they had even more so I didn't have to check out "real" books lol.
I haven't heard of Libby but will check it out. It would save me money!
I just requested one of this author's books from the library. Thanks for the recommendation.
Dear Terra, I think audio books are a good addition to kindle books. Greetings to you from Dori from the Bavarian Forest
I use Libby all of the time and so does my daughter and my husband. Mandy and I especially love the audio books because she does her housework, etc., while listening and I listen while knitting, crocheting and cross stitching. Right now I'm "reading" a light hearted murder mystery series based on a cookie shop in Minnesota. I think there are over 25 books in the series now. I'm late to the game though and I'm only on book three. They are by Joanne Fluke and I'm currently on "The Lemon Meringue Pie Murder". I've read "The Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder" and the "Strawberry Shortcake Murder".
I need light hearted fiction the way the world is right now.
Blessings and love,
Betsy
I must admit, whilst hubby uses a kindle and downloads free books I much prefer to hold a book.
YES! I use Libby and check books out from my library. It's easy peasy and such a huge savings! I read on my IPAD. Enjoy your day. (I need to read a book in this series)
Hi Terra - I'd heard of Libby ... but haven't used it - the library isn't very far away - so I wander down and get the book out ...I prefer the book v e-versions.
But thanks for the mention of Elly Griffith - I know I found her via a blogger at some stage ... and she now sits waiting for me to have time to read more of her books - the one I've read I thoroughly enjoyed ... 'The Postscript Murders' ...
Cheers Hilary
Glad you're enjoying the Elly Griffiths series, and great that you can borrow them as e-books from your library. I can nowadays borrow e-books and audio books online from my library as well, but the libraries here in Sweden don't use the Kindle system. I have to use a library app on my tablet for those. It's usually also only popular books in Swedish that I can borrow that way. As I read a lot in English, I still buy books for Kindle (and have downloaded lots of classics free). Recently cancelled my Audible monthly subscription though, because I realized I have a lot I haven't had time to listen to, or want to listen to again.
So glad to see this recommendation; sounds like one I would enjoy. Immediately went to my library website and checked out ebook of the first in the series. My arthritic thumbs find my lightweight Kindle to be much more user friendly than a heavy hard back.
No, I don't use Libby and I've meant to look into a service of this kind. Even if the Kindle books are not expensive, the way I read, it adds up. I'm glad you are reading that Swedish blogger. I'm not, but I know of her and check her out every now and then. Have a lovely week.
Our library uses another app and I really should do a better job of using it!!
I don't use Libby but that's because until now I had never heard of it! I currently use Audible, and I don't mind paying for it because I love audio books! Thanks for the tip because I will certainly be checking it out. xoxo
Yes, I've been posting the audio books I've listened to now for some time, and I get them all from Libby. There were a few in a series that Libby didn't have so used Audible for those; but why pay for a book if you don't have to. You get them loaded to your phone and ipad at the same time. I don't load to the computer, but suppose that's an option I just passed by in the beginning. I like the audio books because I listen when I walk, when I knit, when I'm working in the kitchen etc. I like being able to do multiple things at the same time. I probably sound like a recorder, because I've mentioned that a bit in some of my blog posts. I also really like the accents for different people, or when the book takes place in France or Germany etc, you get a more real feel to the characters, plus the correct way to pronounce words and names. Welcome aboard the Libby train.

I've used Libby for a few years now and absolutely love it...especially for audiobooks because by streaming via Libby you don't need to mess around with CDs or tapes. Being able to put books on hold directly with Libby is really nice, too...until four or five of them decide to arrive at the same moment.
I think I've read another book in that series. I enjoyed it. Must look for more. I haven't heard of Libby but i think we can download books from our library. Actually I must check that out as we're hoping for a holiday soon.
Oh but you have to read the Ruth Gallaway series, from the beginning!!!!!! You have to!!!-! :-))))))
I have been enjoying them for years. Love them. But I so hope, you began, at the beginning.
Thank you for th Birthday Wishes.
To answer your question... I tried to get Ebooks from library, and was not successful. I tried some sort of an Ap, and that didn't work for me either.
So I went with Prime Unlimited. Costs something like $10 a month, but there is such a selection. Can get 10 books at a time. Plus... With library, had to wait for some books to be returned. ??? With Prime Unlimited, noooooo wait.
It was wonderful during the *damnpandemic*.
Gentle hugs....

First I want to thank you for visiting and leaving such a kind note about my drawing.
You know, I have never used the audio books before, it sounds like it maybe a good thing to do.
Have a great weekend,

I LOVE Libby! I finally signed on a couple of years ago and have a huge "wishlist" tagged there. I read Libby on my phone, ebooks from Amazon on my Kindle, and still love reading "real" books from my shelves. My daughter in a different state also uses Libby and I've learned that each state sources their books from different places, so we can't always get the same books.
I loved the Ruth Galloway series at first, but haven't read the last couple since I wasn't enjoying them anymore. That's another advance of Libby.... I can check one out free of cost if I get the urge to try them again.
Making blog rounds again and waving hello. Hope you're doing well.
