New Bits and Bobs, Hail, Camel Saddle and More

Hi Friends, my previous post of bits and bobs had lots of readers and comments, so that inspired me to write this post. Your comments mean a lot to me.
When my younger son, Lane, put the Christmas decorations back in the attic he found my old camel saddle up there.
I bought it in the old bazaar in Old Jerusalem about 50 years ago. The seat is made of leather and the stuffing looks like hay. I wonder how to bring it back to a more gorgeous condition. First thing some leather conditioner.
It doesn't snow where we live but Jan. 16 I was very excited to hear a loud noise hitting our sky lights. It was hail. I ran outside and took some photos.
The above is our front yard. Below are two closeups of hail. This is an exciting event for this California girl. I grew up in Wisconsin and still miss snow, and watching the Packers at Lambeau Stadium.
Next is a photo of Bounce's favorite toy, a Christmas gift already in need of sewing repairs. I call this little lamb Baa Baa. I sewed up two holes in its side but Bounce has already made another hole and there is stuffing all over the living room rug. Also one of the squeakers inside the lamb flew out, which is when I knew I needed to sew Baa Baa.

Next is a page from the book we are reading in Bible study, Discovering Joy in Philippians. Did you know that the words joy and rejoice appear 18 times in Philippians? It is amazing that Paul wrote this to encourage Christians while he was imprisoned in Rome, under harsh conditions, and knowing he faced a death penalty. The book we are reading has about 12 book marks to color in it, in separate pages at the back. You can see some coloring I did.

Have a beautiful day friends. I am fasting today all day Sunday in prep for a medical procedure Monday. It is one doctors want oulde people (that is me) to have done every five years. My dad signed his letters to me "ye oulde dad" so I kinda like that spelling.

Ye Oulde People!! That's cute. I definitely come into that category.
I have never heard of a camel saddle but upon thinking about it I guess a person would need one. Did you also ride on a camel while you were in the Holy Land?
I have a straw hat that I bought at a garage sale years ago. The woman who was selling it wore it when she went riding on a camel. I just had to buy her hat after hearing her story.

Leather repair shop or perhaps even shoe repair might be able to sew that up for you and clean and condition. Depends on if you wish to put money into it. It seems special and worth it. If budgeting then you can get leather sewing tools at a craft store and then sew yourself and a good leather cleaner and conditioner.

The camel saddle is fascinating. I have never seen one. I hope you can restore it. My sister's dog used to chew up his stuffed toys also. They never lasted very long.

I'm sitting here wishing for snow, but it so rarely happens here. Sigh. We will be having real cold weather for once this week so that's nice. I like your camel saddle, as Kathy said...how fascinating!

That saddle is amazing. I know nothing about restoring htem, but it's fascinating that you have it. Our Chloe doesn't even play with stuffed animals much but our friends tiny poodle does and boy does she chew them up fast!
Love how your Dad wrote ye oulde people. I feel that way too. I'll be 60 in a couple of weeks and I feel every day of it most days.

I don't think I've ever seen a camel saddle before. I like that. Looks like sewing repairs are needed on that too.
With the snow we have on the ground right now I'm wishing I lived somewhere that didn't get it.

I would love to see you restore that beautiful camel saddle. Yes, check and see if there are any shoe repair or leather shops in the area, or a seamstress with some very strong needles. It would be worth restoring for sure. I love the little lamb. So sorry Bounce was a bit too vigorous with it. And I also love that you are reading Philippians...and now I must go and re-read it looking for the "joy" and rejoice parts. "Joyful" is my One Word for 2020, and I have not researched Philippians for good verses expressing joy yet in this go-round. So thank you for the hint...I will be checking into it soon. I would love to see that Bible study book you are using. What is the name of it? Oh, "Ye Oulde People" must have certain tests...yes, this "oulde people" has been there, done that, and must do every 5 years also! Good luck on your test today. Praying all will be well. Interesting to see your camel saddle. I have one of similar age which my first husband bought at a house sale. It had belonged to a man who had been an equerry to George V (his name escapes me).

Discovering Joy, sounds wonderful! We are studying the book of Romans. Here in Maine we have the snow you are missing, AND, the cold temps, high of 17F today. I had to dig out to take my mother's aging cat to the vet. She, the cat, didn't think much getting carted around in her carrier on such a cold day and complained loudly. Enjoy your blog posts!💖

Well, you are certainly the only person I “know” with a camel saddle! I hope you can restore it to its original state and enjoy it some more. I, too, grew up in Wisconsin, and I’m still a Packers fan, albeit a rather sad one after Sunday’s game. It would have been so exciting to have the Packers in the SuperBowl (which I would never watch otherwise), i hope you can restore some more life to Bounce’s sweet Baa
Baa. Once the squeaker is gone, though, our dog, at least, loses all interest.

Dear Terra, all your bits and bobs interest me. I've had the habit for nearly 40 years of decluttering during the week between Christmas and New Years, so I don't have much around that would be considered bits and bobs. But I do have my doll Suzy who came to me the Christmas I was 8. She sits here on my desk, always interested in what I'm doing. She and I had such fun together! I wonder if you used that camel saddle. Did you ride horses in Wisconsin? Peace.

Terra you are an inspiration and your comments always touch me. I would consult a shoe repair person or watch a youtube video on how to repair your camel seat. What a wonderful treasure. Glad it is going to be displayed not stored away.

Hi Terra, thanks for your comment. My folks used to have a camel saddle, I wonder what happened to it?? Wow, I hate hail it destroys the garden and sometimes the roof as well!! I am also not very fond of snow which thankfully is fairly rare here though a few years back we were snowed in for 3 weeks!

The saddle is a revelation to me ... I never knew there was such a thing (although it makes sense). I bet you'll be able to restore it to even better shape, much like you did for Baa Baa. We once took the kids to visit Lambeau Field ... the Packers were practicing as I recall, but in an indoor facility on the property. I don't really do football but my husband thought it would be fun to show the kids. We'd been in Oshkosh, at the annual fly-in. xoxo

Hopefully, that oulde test is done. I had a test today that I wasn’t looking forward to. The best thing about it is that it’s done.

If you get your saddle back together, I hope I get to see it. As for squeaker surgery...it's the first thing I like to do on new toys. I’m mean like that.

That is a wonderful conversation piece! When I saw the injured lamb toy I just had to go back and see your dog. Bounce is adorable! I have two very spoiled cats and know all about repairing toys.

Your camel saddle is interesting, I've never seen one before! I'll bet it will clean up beautifully!

Poor, Baa Baa. It's funny the things we do for our beloved pets...I'd leave the squeaker out ;0)

I'd like to be more like Paul, he was an amazing man in so many ways. Being positive was definitely one of his virtues, especially when he was in such adverse conditions, a true example for me!

Lovely reading all your news - and the camel saddle was certainly an interesting purchase! I'm in Western Australia and hail is a big deal here too - I've never seen snow, so it's the closest I get to really cold stuff on the ground.
I was just listening to a podcast from Philippians on "being anxious for nothing" written when Paul was in jail and had a lot to be anxious about - but was at peace in his relationship with Christ - something we can all learn from!
