"Think on these things"

"Think on these things"
Originally uploaded by gwilmore

Sometimes the news or personal stuff can get me down, and then one of my favorite Bible verses, Philippians 4:8, gives me timely and timeless advice on what to think about.

I like different Bible translations and find them fascinating in the words they use, and the subtle differences the choice of words gives. The meaning remains true, in each case.

Here is one:

"Whatsoever things are true,

Whatsoever things are honest,

Whatsoever things are pure,

Whatsoever things are lovely,

Whatsoever things are of good report,

If there be any virtue and if there be any praise, think on these things." KJV

This is also Philippians 4:8 from the NIV.

"Finally brothers, whatever is true

Whatever is noble,

Whatever is right,

Whatever is pure,

Whatever is lovely,

Whatever is admirable,

If anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about such things."

They are all good words aren't they. So in the end they come to the same conclusion. BE BEYOND REPROACH.

One of my favorite scripture verses. I love the KJV of the Bible.

May I 'think on those things' all the day long.

One of my favorite memory verses too. What a great way to cleanse our minds...words like that. And to really dwell on them. Camp on them. Make them your own.

Thanks!

(I believe) St. Augustine said, "We become that which we love." There are days I just have to turn off the news, and focus on more positive things. Have a bright and blessed day!

This is one of my all time favorite verses in the Bible no matter what translation you quote it from! Love it! And it just proves to be so true. IF we set our minds on THESE things, THEN the peace of God is ours! Just doesn't get any better!

Have a lovely day! Blessings!

Thank you for these lovely verses. I guess I am one of the few who have definite preferences in translations. I do not mind those which use more words...more reflection opportunities...more chance to apply the thought to situations...but I love the idea that a sentiment can be expressed in so many ways and still have the power of God's voice.
