Things I Like to Chat About

I love to learn. I am a librarian and so many topics interest me. Here are some topics and people that I care about. Do we share any interests?

Authors: Rumer Godden and Agatha Christie. Fascinating lives, lived at same time but paths apparently did not cross. Rumer spent half her life in India and Agatha many years camping in harsh conditions in remote deserts in Syria with her archeologist husband Max. Favorite novelist Anthony Trollope. D.E. Stevenson. P. G. Wodehouse for good laughs. Mapp and Lucia books by E.F. Beaton. Poet Mary Oliver.

I like novels set in India during the time when British were there. Novels set in Turkey. Many mystery series. Alexander McCall Smith, especially Ladies No. 1 Detective Agency set in Botswana.

Memoirs. A favorite memoir on aging is Essays At 80 by American Poet Laureate Donald Hall. He lives alone in an isolated farm house in New England once owned by his grandparents. He is aging well and inspires me. The memoirs by Agatha Christie and Rumer Godden.

Petra in Jordan. A place of wonder I visited. Two American college girls visiting the desert long ago.

My favorite coffee shop below.

Gad Saad, Jordan Peterson, Elon Musk, Maye Musk, Russell Brand in his Christian path. Katie Hopkins.

TV shows. Tatort Munster. Great friendship between the detective and the coroner. The new 3 part Seven Dials. The new Northanger Abbey. Eastenders, watching it from almost the beginning. Munch (funny). Son of a Critch (based on memoir, funny, sweet). The current series of Father Brown, 13 seasons now.

If you know me, C.S. Lewis is my Christian mentor. One favorite of his books is The Great Divorce, fiction about people who reject God and who accept God and his imaginative look at what happens at the moment of death.

Flowers flowers you can not have too many flowers. I treated myself to the above bouquet at Costco.  A week later on Mothers Day my youngest son came over with another glorious bouquet and card.

What do you like?

C. S. Lewis has always been my favorite Christian mentor, T. G. I'll take flowers any day of the week, too, but my current loves are our daffodils blooming tin the yard. Blessings!

I love my early morning Bible readings with a cup of chocolate milk. Nope. I'm not a coffee drinker or much of a hot tea one either unless it's chocolate chai either cold or hot.
I love camping with my sweet Hubby in our 5th wheel trailer. But I love being home best of all.
Blessings and love,
Betsy

Agatha Christie and P.G. Wodehouse I've been reading since my early teens, still return to them every now and then. C.S. Lewis I didn't "find" until in my mid 20s, but he's one of my major favourites ever since, both fiction and theology. I also enjoy McCall Smith's Botswana series, I think I've read them all (unless there's some recent one I've missed). Also following the Father Brown TV series.
Mostly listening to audio books these days, recently repeated Mary Stewart's Merlin/King Arthur series which is also an old favourite.
I haven't been much of a "penfriend" (writer of physical letters/cards) lately because of my knee injury back in October followed by a difficult winter here - making even the nearest mailbox seem very far away. Hope to improve when the snow and ice finally give up!! ♥

I love that you visited Petra, such a beautiful and historic place.
We are currently watching Father Brown. I'll have to check out those other shows you mentioned.
The flowers are gorgeous!

I would love to meet in person, we could have a good long chat about books and authors we both like. You are a wonderful penfriend, no worries. I've been meaning to send you a card. Spring is on the way and you can walk more safely then!

Wow, they had such an adventurous life!
Good books and their writers can be real friends. I know this from Gunnar Gunarson. When I read his story about an old sportive and brave man searching and bringing home every winter with his dog Leo and his ram Knorz lost sheep in the snow of Island-Highland, I met him and the figures who are in this story. Like real life!
I love the flowers 🌹💐🌸🌺🌷🌻🥀🌼🪻🪷💮

I'm fond of just about anything British, especially mysteries, movies and television programs. You really can't beat a good Christie for a fun, page turning book! Love the flowers!

Lots of crossover from your list to the things that I like to chat about. The problem is more one of finding someone willing to chat about them with me. I’m a big fan of memoirs, and I’ve been drawn more and more to the ones that explore the aging process. Reading C.S. Lewis for the first time right now, but I’m not sure how representative of his work “Mere Christianity” might be.

Sebastian Junger in “My Time of Dying,” says “We’re all on the side of a mountain shocked by how fast it’s gotten dark…” I have to agree with him.

Sam I agree, it is hard to find someone to chat with me about some of my favorite topics. That is why I posted this here, it is good to see folks with similar tastes. Good Sebastian Junger quote, he is a courageous guy.

Yes, Father Brown and the characters in it and the beautiful village settings are wonderful. My friend Carol and I went way out in the desert by ourselves, didn't think of danger, rather naive. Met and photographed Bedouins etc. A great journey.

You are right, you can not have too many flowers. I believe that is true of books also. Although I am weeding out some books and putting them in Little Free Libraries.

Such a lovely list of favorites, Terra. Your bouquet is beautiful, and I loved reading through everyone’s book and author mentions — so many shared loves! C.S. Lewis, Agatha Christie, and all those cozy British mysteries feel like old friends. And treating yourself to flowers is always a good idea. This was such a fun, uplifting post to read today. 💛

I big time LOVE a lot of the same things. I love Father Brown. I love Mapp & Lucia books and shows. I love to read and watch anything by Agatha Christie and I have since I was a little girl. Flowers....oh I love some flowers. I would love to have a cutting garden one day. I also think Russell Brand is a unique and interesting person. :)

If you lIke Father Brown, you'd probably like Sister Boniface - another gentle, crime series.
There can never be too many flowers.
