Old Gnarly Radishes, South African Flowers and American Tableware

Are these old radishes frightening? They were left in my garden over the winter and are gigantic.

The above photo of Leucospermum from my garden was taken the day I picked them. The next photo shows the blooms about 10 days after picking.

Above are leucospermum flowers from my two garden bushes. They need sun and rather dry conditions and are from South Africa. The flowers last a long time, several weeks, in a bouquet.

It is sad to me to see entire industries disappear from the USA. Factories provide good jobs and help our economy be strong. Many countries face this same situation as manufacturing is dominated by communist China. The above beautiful tableware is made by the only remaining USA tableware manufacturer. I like to support them and bought a set of stainless steel highest quality silverware for my table. I chose the Annapolis design, they offer many designs. If you are interested visit www.libertytabletop.com I am not connected with them but I am praising them. Here is the link: Liberty Tabletop

I’m going to check out those South African flowers for my area of Redding. We have hot dry summers. I hope they can handle 100 degree heat. Did you grow them from seed or buy them from a local nursery? I’ve not see any here which could indicate they would not do well in our hot summer climate.
The flatware is very nice. Unfortunately I already have a new set that I recently received. But I agree with you. We need to support what American manufacturers we have left. So sad.

Dearest Terra,
Lovely images you show us here.
The radishes are not edible in that form I'm afraid...
Such flowers will last a long time and look beautiful in a vase.
Oh, it is heartbreaking to see good quality companies vanish in a rapid way.
The youth has been brainwashed to fall for cheap mass–production from China and often not lasting—thus polluting our areas by bulk in the landfill.
Hugs,
Mariette

Did you try the radishes and did they taste good? Your flowers look so pretty no matter how long they were in the vase.
I really like your new flatware. I like the simple designs best and it's great that you found some made in the USA. I'm going to go look at that site. Thanks for the link.
Blessings,
Betsy

Those radishes do look weird, love them though but not too sure if I would after being in the soil for so long.
The leucospermum are beautiful flower we grow them here in many areas of Australia, they do well.
It's good you are supporting your nations cutlery industry, it helps keep them going. You are not the only one that thinks as you do.

Always good to hear about a US manufacturer. It's hard to find things that are made here any more.

Those flowers are new to me, and as for the radishes, I'm not sure I'd have been able to identify them!

I know you were surprised to see the big radish that survived the winter. Goodness....those flowers are so very pretty and how nice that they last for quite a while. Perfect for bouquets... It is sad that so many products are no longer made here in the USA. I was just saying how our clothing industry has gone down hill because they are all fast manufactured in china or Vietnam. Beautiful tableware. Have a great day..

Those radishes are certainly interesting looking. Did you even try to eat them?

The tableware looks a lot like mine. It's sturdy and has a solid feel. A recommendation to anyone in the market for some.

The flowers native to South Africa are very pretty and reminded me of the tall purple Alliums that my DIL grows. The gnarly radishes look like something genetically modified. Crossed with something frightening LOL.

It really is sad to see how little old fashioned manufacturing of products is done in this country nowadays. You would think we wouldn't be so stupid, but the realization that most all of our meds are manufactured in places like China, and that until very recently all of our computer chips came (and still largely do) from places like Taiwan proves just how stupid we turned out to be. The supply chain issues during the Covid year should have taught us a lesson. I hope someone was listening.

Your radishes do look a little alien don't they. However the leucospermum flowers are very beautiful and great that they last so long for you. Sad that many industries are losing out to cheap foreign imports and local skills and trades are being lost. We should still try and do what we can do to support homegrown industry where we can.

Terra: it is a shame that so many companies are in other countries only because they want to make more money not pay the tax's here in the USA and put our people to work, we still look for American companies when we purchase items, we only buy our American Flags from a totally American company, totally source from beginning to end, some shoes can be bought online from America.
I think the government needs to put more restrictions on American companies that are making products in other countries with cheap labor.
Your radishes look different, I love radishes.
Love the flowers.

Hi Terra! I really like that tableware. I like to support American companies whenever I can. As a nation, we started sending all of our jobs overseas beginning in the 80s and 90s. Very sad. So many problems in our nation now. Those radishes are very interesting. I hope you have a good week. See you again soon!
