Books, Carole and I at the Yacht Harbor and a Bit of Confusion in Blogland

I don't aim to confuse you, but somehow on Oct. 26 this got posted with the posting date of Oct. 1. So I think most of my blog readers did not see this post before. But if you are one of the few who did somehow see it earlier, you are not losing your mind, maybe Blogger is though.

Our local bookstore needed help; they sent customers an email saying if they are to stay in business we need to do our Christmas shopping now! I debated going in the store but decided to use their online site, found three great sounding books, ordered them online, and they will contact me when I can drive there and pick them up curbside. So no going in the store. Much as I miss browsing in the store, I am a senior and am glad I can help the store in this safe way.

I haven't received these books so am not actually recommending them, though they sound wonderful.

"I've Been Thinking: Reflections, Prayers and Meditations for a Meaningful Life" by Maria Shriver. This book has wonderful reviews including "wildly gorgeous, inclusive and accessible."

Below is the second book I have on order. "Church of the Small Things: The Million Little Pieces That Make Up a Life" by Melanie Shankle. I am attracted by this cover and have been wanting to buy this, so, voila.

"House of Trelawney: A Novel" by Hannah Rothschild. This novel was published this year and sounds charming. An eccentric English aristocratic family tries to save their family home which is crumbling around them. The author writes sly humor and has been compared to Austen and Dickens. I haven't read it, so that is what reviewers are saying.

Just for fun here is a photo of my friend, Carole, and me on our walk around the local yacht harbor. We wore masks but took them off for the photo. We also ate lunch harbor side at an outdoor dining venue, her treat. I had fabulous crab cake, real crab, and coffee. I am on the left, the photo is rather dark. We stopped on the deck of the yacht club and the manager, her friend, took our photo.

This is an odd post; I accidentally published it on Oct. 26, but with the posting date of Oct. 1, so likely no one will see it unless I publish it again and pretend it is a new post, with the date of November 1. It is some sort of weird time travel to be able to post in the past! Posting on Oct. 1 when it is 25 days later. Plus now the photos and words are being difficult to load.

I have trouble loading photos to my blog. They get all out of order. I didn't see this post before. What a treat to eat outside and have crab. Yum! Too cold to eat out here now.

Maria Shriver also has a weekly column that I subscribe to with the same or similar title.....it may be a compilaton of that but you may want to check it out.

Dear Terra, it seems as if Blogger wants to play Halloween with us :) :) :)

I received this post exact one hour before, that means at midnight, 12 o'clocjk on the first of November!!!!!!

Many small shops have big problems here to survive because of the corona-rules. The Pandemie starts into a second strong wave. So it is better to save healthy by goiing into the forest and not between a lot of people.

I think the books you have chosen are nice friends. Also this photo with you and your friend in the harbour is a sign of good friends.

Stay happy and healthy! - -

Greetings from Dori from the Bavarian Forest

I remember reading about the bookstore so I guess I did see this post on whichever date it was...lol
Sounds like a nice outing with your friend.

Blogger is funny sometimes! I didn't see this before. I like the photo of you with your friend. The House of Trelawny sounds like a good one to me. I hope the bookstore makes it.

We order online at our bookstore, then they offer curbside pickup. Works pretty well. Though I must confess, we borrow more to read from the library than we buy at the store.

Maybe if you can locate the time warp we can all go back to 2016 for a do-over?

I'm not at all happy with the blogger changes. They didn't make anything better or easier, that's for sure. Good that you are able to get out with a friend. A shame that independent bookstores are once again having a hard time staying in business. I've read more books this year than ever. I get Maria Shriver's newsletter every Sunday/Wednesday. That second book looks interesting. Enjoy! Take care.

Strange about it posting on the 1st..new blogger is a bit strange at times, it wouldn't let me make a post for a few days time a little while back.

Blogger is definitely having some issues these days. I sure hope they figure it out soon.
I'm glad you had a good time with your friend. I know we have to social distance, but I do think it's important we do things too.
Thank you for recommending the books. I have a pile here to read too, but never seem to have enough time.
Blessings,
Betsy

What ever the date it should have been posted - it was still a good post to read :) Our bookshops are struggling too - as are a lot of the smaller shops, particularly the catering/hospitality trade. It is difficult - we are all told to stay home to keep everyone safe, yet those that rely on 'real life' shoppers are suffering and will probably go out of business. Shops that are able to diversify and sell on line are the ones that will survive. What a topsy turvy world we live in now.

That was a strange blip for Blogger but I am glad you reposted since I always enjoy hearing about books. Browsing the local bookstore and libraries is something I really, really miss these days.

The post showed up before on my reading list. Not a surprise to see it again because that's what has been happening. I read blogs on my reading list, and later, there are blog posts added to the list that weren't there before. Blogspot glitch.

I did see this post and I did comment on it now I can't remember what I commented and blogger has been crazy ever since they changed it.

Nice to see you. It must have felt good to be out with a friend during these times.

I love the photo of the two of you and I love the idea of ordering the books to pick up! Enjoy your day!

I do remember reading this post before... when? That I don't remember. The new blogger is a bit confusing, but I'm getting used to it. I still can't figure out how to read the comments on my iPhone. I can get my own post and other's posts, but somehow can't get the comments - which are sometimes as interesting as the blogs.

I did see this post before but I can't remember when, or if I commented... I haven't read any of the books. I'll gladly blame it on Blogland rather than my own head, which is confused enough anyway! ;)

I saw this too and I was sure I commented but now I don't see the comment. Go figure.

Thank you for your kind visit and comment to my blog. Ten years back, blogging was such fun. People would visit and leave comments. Very few do now and I totally appreciate that you did. Thank you.

Those books look fantastic. I'm a book lover myself. Nothing like a few good books in your TBR pile, is there? See you soon.

Hi, Terra. I don't think I have commented on your blog before, but I am pushing 80 and somewhat forgetful, so I may well have, in which cae you are now experiencing the same deja vu that readers of this very post may be experienceing!

I see from your profile that you are/were a librarian. I was active in the Library Club way back in high school (from which I graduated in 1958) and helped many a student check books out or back in. I became familiar with the Dewey Decimal System, but that knowledge has now gone with the wind (see what I did there?)....I should now like to pay tribute to our school librarian, Mrs. Ola Dorris Carroll of Mansfield, Texas. We thought she was a little odd back in those days, but I am quite sure that I am much odder now than she ever was.

You have a very good blog, Terra.

I also miss browsing~all stores! I do go to the grocery store but that may end now that we are in flu season along with an uptake on the Covid. I've done the delivery and curbside pickup but I'm always let down by the meats and produce they "choose" for me. Still...I have to do what's best. I have been ordering books on Amazon. I have a huge stack right next to me on my nightstand. I also have three books going at once. The third book you've shown looks interesting. Is it set in present day?

I'm happy to see you getting out. You have the climate to continue that. Lunch sounded delish!

I don't have any of your blogger problems (this post of yours popped up today). I am not able to back up my blog like I used to on the old Blogger and that has me worried. I do that every few months. I'll mention that in my next post and see if anyone has the answer. I'm happy to be writing more.

Be safe and enjoy each day as it comes!❤️

I love to go into bookstores. They are like a museum preparing lots of fun I have never experienced.

Your books look wonderful, especially the one by Maria Schriver. I love her. Indeed, in the age of Amazon, we must patronize our local stores or they will disappear. It's hard to do during COVID though, isn't it.

A ladies day out with a friend... life doesn't get much better than that! :-)

Thank you so much for visiting my blog and leaving a comment.
I'm loving the sound of House of Trelawney, that sounds right up my street. How lovely that you're able to support an independent bookstore during these uncertain times.
A fabulous picture of you and Carole, two very glamorous women. xxx

I also like walking through books at bookstores. The bookstore’s idea is nice, otherwise people would buy, for example, from Amazon. I like local bookstores and would like to support them. Things have gotten tough, including dealing with New Blogger. Take care.

Your bookstore would be pleased with you - if everyone bought 3 books on their mailing list hopefully they will survive into the new year. Enjoy your books!

I'm still trying to figure out bits and pieces of the new blogger, Terra. It's nice that you got together with your friend, Carole. I haven't seen my best friend in awhile and I really miss her. The book "I've Been Thinking" sounds like a good one. Prayer and saying the Rosary sure helps me during these troubling times we're in. I hope you have happy and healthy November days, Terra. Enjoy the Thanksgiving season.
