Mostly light hearted post, a friend is moving away

Here is another mostly light hearted post from me.
A blog friend completely surprised me with a care package that included this darling antique tea cup from her collection. She also included some Jasmine green tea, and chocolates as you can see. In the vase are the first lilac blooms from my lilac this spring. Thank you Lauren from My Wonderfully Made Blog
All of you blog friends make my life that much brighter during these difficult times.

On a wistful note; one of my longtime friends is moving away from the city where we live, due to financial necessity. She is moving on April 18 and because we are being careful we can't even hug goodbye. Don't tell her ha ha, but I bought her a cute friendship memento. It is ceramic, edged with gold paint, and says "A true friendship is a journey without an end." Actually I am more than wistful, I am sad about her moving. But I need to support her in her journey.

Even the box it arrived in is cute. It says "There is only one happiness in life, to love and to be loved."

You friends will know I don't post many recipes but difficult times call for difficult, or in this case tasty, measures. Shrimp, green bean and bowtie dinner. Delish. I saute the fresh green beans in a splash of olive oil, a splash of soy sauce and a pat of butter for a couple minutes. You can add chopped garlic if desired. Keep the beans a bit crunchy, not all mushy! Boil the frozen raw shrimp 2 minutes and cook the cute bowtie pasta. Drain shrimp and pasta, then stir in the pasta and shrimp into the pan where you cooked the green beans. Voila, it is pretty, easy and healthy.
You could substitute broccoli, add fresh grated parmesan, use other pasta. But don't you just love the bowtie shape? It is called Farfalle in Italian.
More plants from my front yard which I enjoy when sitting on my patio. Actually they make my heart sing, I love their colors.

The red flowers cover my Australian Tea Tree, or Leptospermum Scoparium, which grew from a one gallon size to eight feet tall in 20 years, and the yellow flowers or Leucospermum, are from my new South African shrub, planted a year ago. Many times Leucospermum are wrongly called Australian natives, but they are native to South Africa. The yellow bush will grow to 6 feet tall and 4 feet wide.
Above is Bounce, my 14 pound security patrol partner. He inspects many things along the way, and occasionally nibbles on some grass. People are very cooperative about staying far away in this time of social distancing. Some people walk in the middle of the street. There are plenty of people walking and jogging, skateboarding, bicycling, pushing baby strollers, but there are so many streets and sidewalks near the bay that we easily keep our distance. Temperature here is in the 60s with an occasional 70, so we love being outside.

I like the "true friendship is a journey without end" quote! We really never know where the road will take us, do we... But with "true friends" usually easy to pick up the thread again, even after a long time apart.

How nice to get a surprise from your blog friend! Aren't they the best?? Some of the best people I know are my blog friends.

It is nice to see your flowers and your dog friend. We don't have color yet here..in fact, it snowed this morning. Yuck!

I'm sorry your friend is moving, but you can always keep in touch and maybe visit???

Is that a protea? I love those and remember when I worked at one of the national libraries we got a shipment of them from South Africa for our grand opening.

Dear Terra ~ I'm sorry that your friend is moving away and pray that things will work out for her. Sweet gift you gave her. It is so AWFUL to not give and receive hugs. I MISS that something fierce.

For some reason, I've not had success with the Australian tea tree, I've tried twice. Yours is beautiful!!

Happy gardening and walks with your 'security'. Love, hugs and prayers ~ FlowerLady

Recipe sounds easy and very good. Not making many dinners, those get delivered each night but making breakfasts and lunches here. we made a shopping run today. We split the list to make the trip quicker. Disinfected carts, wore our masks, and washed well on return home plus disinfected groceries. Hope that lasts us for two weeks.

Hello Terra, Thank you for the recipe, it does sound delicious. I'm sorry about your friend moving away. I don't think any of us realized how hard it would be to not be able to hug and touch each other. Videos are good but not the same. You'e chosen a lovely gift for her and I'm sure she'll treasure it. Your cup and treats was a nice gift oo. Aren't blog friends wonderful? I'm so thankful for all of you. Stay safe.
Blessings,
Betsy

I love the tea cup and tea that your friend gave you...and then I am sad that you have a friend who is moving away. I know you will miss her. Love your lilacs. We can't grow them here in Florida, and I really miss them. Your "Bounce" is so sweet... and what a blessing to get you out and moving!! Hope you are doing well, and staying healthy. Hopefully we won't be doing this much longer. Praying!!

I love the tea cup - so pretty! I'm sorry about your friend moving. That is hard, but you are sweet and supportive and I know she will treasure the dish.
We don't like shrimp - can you believe that? I bet it would be good with chicken though. The bow ties are very cute.

What a sweet gift to give to your friend that is moving. It is so sad to see our friends leave. I know from experience. But I know you will keep in touch. It sure is hard to see a friend and have to keep your distance.

That recipe sounds good and easy. I will have to try it.

And your garden! So pretty!

A teacup, some tea, and chocolate... three of my favourite things!
It must be hard to have your good friend move. Hopefully when this crisis is over you can visit back and forth.
Take care and stay well.

A gift from a distant friend and a gift for a friend who will be distancing. Friends are a good thing and technology shortens the distance.

The flowers are all so pretty. Your dinner looks pretty yummy too.

In India, you cannot even leave your home except to get groceries, vegetables etc or for medical emergencies. No on can even dream of relocating till at least the beginning of May.

Your flowers are so pretty. I long for the day when we see blooms like that in our gardens.

How kind of Lauren and how lovely of you to find that sweet plate for your friend. I'm sorry you won't be able to hug, but perhaps not doing so is the greatest gift you can share -- and I know you will keep connected.

Your dinner sounds great!

Sorry to hear your friend is moving away. What a sweet goodbye gift, almost as good as a hug! Bounce looks so dapper in his little coat and what a treat your flowers are. It’s good to have nature close when we are stuck with staying home. Take care!

I know you must have a lovely garden. And what a good guard dog, he's taking his job seriously, that's obvious. I love the gifts, both hers and yours. Sad that she's moving away, but the friendship isn't and that's what is the most important.

I'm sorry your friend is moving away.
Your spring weather and foot traffic sounds wonderful, though. It's in the 30s here in Wisconsin.

Very pretty flowers. Here in Kansa things are starting to bud out
though I think the plants are as confused as Mother Nature right now.

Your gift is so cute.

So sorry to hear about your friend, hopefully after all the wildness
passes you two can get together.

Bounce's sweater is too darn cute!

What a lovely gift, such a pretty teacup and saucer. You will surely enjoy a nice cup of tea in that dainty cup. You are a good friend and that is a wonderful goodbye gift, she will love it and always think of you when she sees it. Your temperatures sound like ours, the days are so nice right now and your recipe is a perfect dish. I'm glad you posted it because I'm gonna make it tomorrow night substituting the beans with asparagus. Had I read this earless we would be having it tonight haha. What a cute pup and he sports his shirt well.
Have a great weekend!

The tea cup is nice and unique. I am an antique collector so I appreciate good pieces of porcelain.

I love the printed message and hope your friend will find comfort from it. Your are indeed caring to everyone and even willing to share a great pasta dish.

I love the African yellow flowers in your garden. It's my first time seeing this.

Terra...somehow I lost your blog....but just found it!
I will try your recipe of the shrimp pasta green bean...looks delicious.

What special gifts...friendship is such a treasure. Especially in times like these.

I think its time for me to make another batch of scones, as I found some Lemon Curd at Trader Joes that is from England. Yum...can't wait to have one warm out of the oven. Also love clotted cream...harder to find.

Have a great day...enjoy tea in your new tea cup!!

Perfect weather for being outside. Everyone here was pretty good about staying indoors for the past month, but when I walked two days ago, there were more people out than usual, and more cars on the road, too. People can't stay cooped up inside forever, especially when the weather is still nice. A lovely gift set from your friend. Jasmine tea is my favorite. But I have so much tea from so many places that I must finish what I've got rather than buying more. Sorry to hear your friend is moving. I'm sure that will be the case for many people after all is said and done. Difficult times for so many. Take care.

I am so sorry your friend has moved away. My very best friend lives about 6 hours away and I miss her so much. We became friends in a laundromat when we were young moms and have been best friends since that first day.
Wonderful to finally visit you--still getting settled here. xoDiana

You are so well loved! The tea cup gift package is precious. I am sorry you are losing a close friend to a move. Your Bounce is precious, he is tiny compared to Leo. Leo is 98 lbs. But he is so gentle with the pups. Oh I Love the dinner you had prepared. That looks delicious. It was a fun visit here and I am very happy I know you and enjoy visiting tonight. Have a wonderful rest of your week and stay happy and healthy! xo

I'm sad about your friend's necessity to move but I certainly hope she will be fine. That's a lovely gift from your blog friend! The bow tie pasta dish looks delicious and healthy. You have some gorgeous flowers; thanks for sharing the pictures. We are fortunate to live on a secluded street and everyone who walks their dogs, keep their distance but are still friendly. Bounce is darling in his security outfit! Have a lovely day. Mildred
