The pain of root canal and the joy of the garden

Hi friends, I had a root canal done last Thursday, July 26 and brother, for 3 days I was in pain. The pain med that I could take every 8 hours worked for 3 hours and then for 5 hours I was hurting. Round the clock. Anyway, poor poor me, I am feeling much better today. In mid-August I go in for part two, which consists of the specialist dentist (endodontist) checking her work and sealing it up if all is well. So think good thoughts for me.

I decided to balance this pity party with some favorite garden quotes. There are so many, thousands really. Above photo is Canterbury Bells from my garden a few years ago. I like all bell flowers, and well, all flowers.
Here is a garden quote by a man after my own heart, William Coles, who wrote in 1657 "A house though otherwise beautiful, yet if it hath no garden belonging to it is more like a prison than a house."
I enjoy my twice daily walks with Bounce and love the variety of gardens we see, but once in a while I see a sad front yard with no plants or trees or flowers and think it could do with some sprucing up.
Sir Robert Lorimer wrote in On Scottish Gardens, in 1898 "A garden is a sort of sanctuary, a chamber roofed by heaven ... to wander in, to cherish, to dream through undisturbed ... a little pleasaunce of the soul, by whose wicket the world can be shut out."
Don't you love that word "pleasaunce"?
Above is a bonus photo of Bounce, also called Wonder Dog, Prince, Mr. Bounce, Bouncey and Bouncer. You can see by his shirt he likes flowers too.
Usually when I am in my garden I find it so soothing, peaceful and pretty that I live in the now at those moments, and find plenty of things to do. At this summer time of the year I cut off spent flowers and do some watering and soak in the beauty. Oh that new yellow rose I planted, what a lovely color.
"A chamber roofed by heaven", I like that.

Oh My---bless your heart... Hope your pain is gone quickly --and that you get through the dental work quickly.... Remember the old saying: "I'd rather eat nails than to.......Go to the Dentist"..... ha... But--I do go, dreading it from beginning to end...

I love our gardens also.... I'm working on some blog posts showing off this year's Day Lilies.... They are mostly gone now --but since we buy re-bloomers, many will bloom again in the Fall.....

Take care..
Hugs,
Betsy

"pleasaunce"

The Internet says that's an obsolete word. Let's bring it back!

Aagh! I hate dental work. Glad you are doing better!
Pleasaunce - I like that word too.

I hope you are feeling much better soon and I will pray that your visit in mid August goes well. What a sweet photo of Bounce. It is been so hot here, I not only haven’t been able to be out in the backyard, I haven’t even been able to go to the lake. It’s supposed to be a bit cooler over the weekend before it heats up again into the upper 90sF next week. That’s just to hot for me to be outside. I know I will be wishing for this warm weather comes snow time this winter though. :-)
Many blessings, Betsy

So sorry to hear of the pain you are suffering with the root canal. I hope you feel better very soon. It can only help you to be in a garden of beauty. I'm sure it takes your mind off the pain for awhile and so does your cute dog.

I had to go to the dentist yesterday for a cracked tooth (which may or may not lead to a root canal.) I came home with a temporary filling and have my fingers crossed that when I go back in two weeks the dentist can make it a permanent one.

I've never heard the word pleasance, googled it and heard how it is pronounced. I definitely have a pleasance, pleasure garden, for myself here. Even with all of the overgrowth and weeds, etc. it brings me joy. :-)

May your pain soon be a thing of the past and your next visit to dentist go smoothly.

Bounce is adorable!!!

Have a great day dear Terra ~ FlowerLady

Bounce and your flowers look wonderful. Think of them when you have that last stage at the dentist. I have to go this month too. Luckily, he is very sure and quick.

Dentists, you can’t live with them and you can’t live without them. I hope you are feeling better today.

My gardens are also my sanctuary, and, yes, when I take walks, I judge others.

Poor you with that root canal. I am just messing about now waiting to go and have a back molar out at 7p.m. I haven't had a tooth out since the 90's.

A chamber roofed by heaven, I really love that.

I had a root canal and I was so glad the roots were gone because the pain was gone and tooth nerve pain is really really bad. Glad you are past that point.

I have had four root canals and I feel your pain. Hope you are feeling better by now. It is no fun for sure. But glad you had some beautiful flowers to take your mind off of it. What a gorgeous garden!

Have sure had my share of root canals in years past. I do not like getting work done on my teeth. Hope you are feeling lots better now. I do love those quotes. It's fun to look at plain houses and yards, and picture how much prettier they would be with flower gardens.

I've had a number of root canals and never had much pain afterwards I suppose because they remove the root. I do know some of these procedures are way more difficult than others...I think I have just been lucky.

Hi Terra!

Thanks so much for your visit. I feel awful that I haven't been around...I thought there must be a problem with my following your blog, but I see that I'm on your feed. I signed up to get email notices of your posts, I see those right off. I am really behind and I have to get some sort of system going because I don't even know who I'm missing half the time!

Your kitty is precious and the photo is perfect for judging the size of your mammoth zucchini! You can probably get 3-4 loaves of bread out of that! With doing a low carb plan I love to slice smallish zucchini in very thin slices and fry them up in oil. I salt them and eat them like chips!

The dresser is gorgeous--what a great way to save some pennies! I wish you had your painting talents.

I went through an eight month process last year getting an implant. The tooth was fractured way up high. It was a bunch of never ending dental visits, surgery, stitches...the whole bit. Makes getting your teeth cleaned sound like a walk in the park. Good luck!

Thanks again for your visit!

Modern endodontic treatment is nothing like those old sayings! It’s very similar to a routine filling and can usually be completed in one or two appointments, depending on the condition of your tooth and your personal circumstances. For Root Canal Therapy in Glendale, you can get treatment from Elite Dental Group.
