Here is the new flooring in tones of grey with some tan. It was put in Oct. 4 and Oct. 5. This is the biggest home improvement project I had done this year and the first big project without my husband.
Here are photos of the one wall my older son painted yellow for me on Saturday, and here are the new birds curtains. The other 3 walls he also freshly painted white, not a harsh white, more subtle. The yellow caused me to name this My Happy Room. I used Valspar "Summer Blonde" from Ace for the yellow paint.
Above is the sealant which is white, plus the moisture barrier on top of the old floor and a bit of the new floating floor being added. Below is a large area of the sealant covering the old floor, as it dries it goes from grey to white.
Below is the old discolored floor, which looked gorgeous 30 years ago when we had our house addition built.
I am very happy with the change and hope this new floor lasts for a long time, decades in fact. I bought new curtains for this area, for 2 patio sliding glass doors and one long window, and my older son is painting the walls "slipper satin" in two rooms, with one wall in each room "summer blonde", which is a pale cheerful yellow for my "happy room."

Oh Terra, I love those floors. In fact, as soon as I can afford it, I am going to put down gray wood floors. So let me ask, were you able to put the new flooring over the old tile? I too am a bird lover and have bird curtains in my bedroom. Only thing wrong, is having to wait till it was all done. Hope it wasn't too long.

I love the cheery yellow. It is a Happy Color. My family room is a very pale butter yellow. Again, great minds!
I have just stared to do a few things here and there without asking hubby first. I wish I had done that long ago, but as a stay at home mom, not bringing home the bacon, I felt I needed permission. He is now spread so thin, the only way we get anything done is if I move forward. He's not always happy with the reversal of roles, but it's working. I know you are in a totally different situation, it can't be easy. But as a woman alone, as you move on, you might feel a bit lighter and confident as you make decisions on your own. You are so brave!

Love your new floor and sunny yellow wall! Yes, that would make me happy too! Are you putting the new floor (and is it laminate or wood or vinyl) over old vinyl or tile? (It looks like tile, but I'd think you'd have to remove tile first?) Just wondering, as we are getting ready to do some more floors in the future too. I am so happy for you. Pamela asked, and others might have the same questions: the new flooring is vinyl floating floor so it goes on top of any existing floor, with no glue, the pieces snap together. Two sliding closet doors and two other doors needed to be removed and cut shorter, as the floating floor will slightly raise the height of the floor and interferes with some doors opening. That is not a big deal, the flooring contractor did it. My new floors look just like wood and will not be water damaged like our wood kitchen floor when the dishwasher leaked.
