Possum having a meal of cat food on our patio at night.
The above closeup photo I found on Pixabay. Do NOT pick up a possum, by the way.
I am linking up with Wordless Wednesday
In answer to a question, the cat food is on the patio since we are feeding a stray cat. Usually the cat hurries over and eats every bit of cat food. If we can tame it, we will adopt it (the cat, not the possum). Any tips on taming a stray cat?

I don't think I've ever seen a possum close up. I would NEVER pick one up though.

He's cute...but I bet he bites!
Yikes! We can't leave any food out here because of all the critters. Scary!
This is just one animal I am NOT fond of
I find nothing about them cute.
The poor possum. He is not one of natures' beauties.
Hey they need to eat too.😹
Awesome Possum!
We had a baby one eating cat food on our porch for a while, but he/she quit coming. Guess it got big enough to hunt for itself.
Sort of cute when they are young. I've heard they are beneficial in eating anything from bugs to rats. They are only confrontational when they are cornered. I know this from having them burrow under my shed and in various other places on my property. I have to worry about my smallish dogs. And once they find a home, generation after generation will never leave. :(
Did you leave the cat food out on accident?

Yikes! I'm not a fan of possums, so I would never pick one up.
Opossum are great to have visit your yard. They eat a ton of bugs, including ticks. They do not carry rabies, although people think they do. They are timid creatures who would rather run away than be with you. Cute photo!
Eek.. I thought you had a pet possum until I read what you said.. lol! We have wild critters eating our outdoor cat food too. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
cute and I won't pick one up

I've always felt kind of sorry for possums. They usually end up as roadkill around here. :(
Possums are such odd-looking creatures! I don't think I'd be picking one up!
Did you name him??
I love that possum - that of course is from here in the UK where we don't have any!
Food is all you can do I think for attracting a stray cat - if they keep coming then one day they may venture inside andallow you to stroke them. Then you are home and dry.
Hello!!
I have no idea of where I am in the world right now but Possums ....?? Not very sweet but on the other hand, cats aren't always either but always interesting. Nice to see your pictures and your great interest in books. If I was to name that cat I think I'd call it Sneaker. The Opossum would be Opossumptios... If they lived in Sweden they would probably be roadkills here too, for sure the badgers are.
Oh Terra, I am glad I read that the second pic wasn't yours!!! Never pick one up....and remember when they look like they are dead, they are not! I had it happen here with the dogs...last year !!!...:)JP
Cute little possum and smart too...knows just where to go for a meal!
I grew up in North Carolina and possums were a pain in the neck. They fight and get into the garbage and generally annoy the grownups :) I liked them. They do carry fleas and all kinds of dirty stuff and those teeth are terrible so look at them from distance and beware, they can carry rabies.
And yes, they are so often Road Kill .. sad .. I would rather think they were Playing Possum than dead ..
I also have possums in the garden of my country house. They come to the night at my garden and they love to eat eat insects and beetles. I don't like when they went to the roof.
I actually think opossums get such a bad rap. They are cute. Though, of course, I wouldn't pick up a wild one. They are one of the few wild animals that don't carry rabies. People think they look like big rats...it's sad. Glad you got the picture of him stealing the cat's food! Maybe the cat will be faster next time! :-)
Terra, this would have given me a scare! I have to say that I have a dreadful fear of mice and rats, and possums are no better, Yikes! You are brave. :)

As far as adopting stray cats? Lots of patience. They have to be willing to come to you......which they do eventually.
