Autumn colors in violas

I know that you, my blog friends, live all around the world, with different seasons and climates, so some of you may wonder why I am planting flowers now. Well, my family lives in a temperate area of California, and some planting can be done in fall.
Fruit trees, trees of all kinds, and roses do well here when planted now.
This six pack of violas spoke to me in the garden store. Well, not in so many words, but they did beckon. They look very autumnal to me, with solid colors of white, orange and yellow.
Above is a photo of them still in their container straight from the store and I think they look like a fall bouquet already.

Then I planted a white viola in my frog planter and an orange one in my quail pot.
Still four more to find homes in our garden.
Are you planting? Or is your garden resting?

Your little flowers do have an autumn feel because of their color. Hope you have a very nice weekend.

I live north of you, with a whole lot more rain and cool temps from November through May. We still plant perennials right now, as the rains will allow them to become established by spring. However, once the rains arrive, and that's soon, everything stops, including most planting and most cleanup too. I'm busy these days with tidying up, bringing furniture and tools in, and tying down anything that might float or fly away when our winds begin howling.

I do like those planters; makes a patio come alive, doesn't it?

They look beautiful. We have some ground covers that only bloom in the Fall/Winter. I do enjoy the colors year round here in California but I also miss the leave changes I am seeing in so many blogs I read.

I adore violas. They do very well during the winter months here in GA. They look like happy faces dancing in the wind to me! Wishing you a nice weekend.

Viola's are such happy little flowers! I live in Michigan, where our gardens are all resting now. Colors are fading now, and soon will be snow and cold!

We can grow flowers in my part of Pennsylvania for ten months a year, although different ones for different seasons. Right now it is pansy, mum and cabbage time. The mums may last a week or so more, and the pansies will come and go during the winter. The cabbages and kale usually make it till January. Then we start ll over again in March. Late January and February are difficult times for me as nothing blooms then. I start counting the days till March 15th and the first sighting of a daffodil.

Our gardens are about to be resting. There are pumpkins in the field, but we could have a first frost any day now. Your flowers are lovely!

I've never seen violas in these beautiful colors...usually just shades of purple! I love these sweet flowers. I'll get some mums when we get back to Florida!

Yes, I am still planting. I couldn't resist the orange, red and yellow colors of the bedding plants with my pumpkins and fall decorations.
Here in California we are fortunate to have mild weather much longer than other places.
I keep tucking annuals into my containers until the frost and cold weather kills them. or until they aren't available anymore. Some even survive the winter.
Your violas are beautiful. They add to the season.

...for us, Autumn is a great time of year for outdoor plants!!! I really should get to a nursery and get some to add color to our yard.

LOVE the quail planter.

I'll soon be planting violas too, as well as two little cedars and a few other shrubs. I plan to spend today in the raised beds, tidying up - it's lovely and sunny!

Hello from Belgium! Beautiful viola colour in your garden. We have already had first frost but now had some days of warm and sunshine and were able to enjoy the autumn colours a bit longer. But the cold season will start soon and then I shall also put violas in the window boxes and hanging baskets as they can resist for quite a while even when it's getting very cold. These last balmy days let me long for living in a milder climate, like you have. I understand why your family left Belgium for California ;-). But where I live is definitely worthwhile a visit, so many different aspects, languages, mentalities, landscapes and culture to explore. Thanks for your nice comment on my blog.

Morning Terra,
Thanks for coming by, it was good to hear from you.
Your flowers are pretty, and am sure will give your garden a lovely
autumn look. I am not planting anything, should probably plant some lantana, but think I will wait till spring. Have just not been into the yard much lately, just doing what has to be done, too many other irons in the fire, I guess.
Hope you have a lovely day.
Blessings, Nellie

They look so cheerful!
No planting here. Just planting my butt in a chair;)

In autumn we plant trees and shrubs, which means that the roots can get established in the dormant season, long before new growth starts next spring.

We also have winter pansies (very much like your violas) for winter pots.

Apart from that I let my garden rest.

We are heading into autumn so it's fall clean-up time in our garden. I love violas and pansies. They are some of my favorites. The color of yours is a nice choice for fall.

I love violas and pansies and yours look lovely planted in their containers! My garden is just about going to go to sleep now, here in England, although I do like to plant winter flowering pansies in the tubs, to get a bit of colour through the winter. Thank you for stopping by my blog today (Tuesday) and, yes, my daughter's friend is doing well at the moment, and I pray that she will continue to do so :)

Geez I love that frog!!! Very nice planting. I sure wish I was planting instead of looking forward to snow in my future lol...

I like your pots Terra. They're so cute! I am not a gardener, only in my dreams, so I'm not planting anything now. Well, I will be racking leaves soon if that counts:)

I especially like the way the orange vioas look in the little terra cotta planter. My garden needs to go to sleep and rest for a few months. The days are slowly getting colder here. But we've had a few warmer days, so the roses are confused and have rebloomed.

My garden is in a full 2nd bloom of this season - it is loving the cooler evening temps. When these blooms fade there will be no planting untill next Spring...Love your new plants and your planters are adorable!!...BTW, yes we stayed in a hotel while at my Girl's get-away.

Very late getting around to this because, well, I'm late to EVERYTHING these days. Sigh.

But I love those flowers and sort of fell in love with them last year. I plan to use some this year. They should bloom all winter.

I hope anyway...
