Honey don't let the skunk in

The skunk is a young one and likes to clean up left over cat food, and yes, we give him his own too.

Aren't skunks BEAUTIFUL?

We live in a city of 50,000 and I think wild life has a hard time surviving in such a citified environment. Cars are dangerous for skunks and possums, plus where do they sleep in the daytime?

Probably in our blackberry jungle in the back yard.

Love ya, little skunk-y.

He's a cutie...wait until he brings his family home for dinner!!

We had a red fox running around our neighborhood last fall. I felt so bad for it as I couldn't figure out where it was from or where it slept. I love all creatures and worry too much about them!

Jane

They are cute but I still wouldn't want to get too close to one!

This post made me smile so, it seems so unusual to somebody living in England! We used to have a tame hedgehog who came in to eat the cat food but all we had to worry about was his prickles! Jane xx

adorable.
I love it and would welcome him/her in my garden - but not in the house!
I don't think the cats would like the competition for a cosy place.

Oh yes, I think they are beautiful too. When I was first in America, in 2006, I saw and smelled my first skunk. Sadly it was dead in the road, but I had to get my dh to stop the car so I could see it. Since then I've seen possums and groundhogs, none of which live in England. I find it fascinating to see these different creatures that I had only heard about before and seen in books and films.
I have also heard that it is possible to remove the scent gland from a skunk so as to keep it as a pet?

Star and Jane, when I saw your posts about how you don't have skunks in England, I immediately thought of how I like hedgehogs which we don't have. Aren't they the cutest animals? So you have hedgehogs and we have skunks. Ah, variety!

Terra said...

Amrita, you don't have skunks but I imagine you have some interesting animals in India that we don't have here. I know from your blog you have fabulous flowers and fruits.

Oh my goodness, if he/she should get in, hope it doesn't get so excited it lets off it's smell or sprays something in the house. That would be horrible.

How cute is that?! I think they're one of the most beautiful animals. We've had families of them on our property, and the markings are so pretty. But no, I wouldn't want them in the house either!

We had a skunk in our garage overnight! Not fun! It tried to get out all night. Ruined a lot of stuff because it kept trying to find a way out and then got into a 50 lb bag of bird food and promptly fell asleep when it got light. Called the Game Commission who said that if it wasn't moving, it wouldn't until nightfall! We were paralyzed ALL day! Our neighbor came over said I think it left and out of the corner of my eye I see it move from one corner of the garage to the other! Long story short, it left as soon as the light began to fade and the minute it left, down went the garage door! Trust me you don't want a skunk indoors. It can also be rabid. Not a good thing!

such a cutie! and I don't blame you for not wanting him in the house : )
Our little dog was sprayed about four years ago and it took forever to get the smell out of his coat.

You ARE a brave one. How long will/can you keep this up, do you think?

Doubt I would want the skunk inside either. Thanks for sharing. Cheers SpecialK XoXo

Hi Terra, found my way here through another blog.

I have to say, skunks are cute but I'm afraid of them, I must admit. When I take my dogs out at night, I'm always on the watch for them. This is an adorable photo.

Blessings, Terra - and wow - you have a skunk? How lovely to care for the Lord's little ones. SO glad you were blessed by my recent roof raising - more on that to come Saturday so I hope you'll stop back.

Congrats on your new book! Co-writing with friends you've never met - isn't this internet thing fascinating!

Joy!

Not many people are brave enough to feed a skunk on their porch! Let's hope he never "blesses" you.

Well I have to say ditto and agree with "lemonverbenalady". We had a skunk in our garage overnight! Not fun! We tried to get out all night. Ruined almost everything because it kept trying to find a way out and was panic stricken spraying all over. Our neighbor came over said I think it left and out of the corner of my eye I see it move from one corner of the garage to the other! Long story short, it left as soon as the light began to fade and the minute it left, down went the garage door! Trust me you don't want a skunk indoors. It can also be rabid. The Fish and Wildlife commission told us under no circumstances should we ever leave cat food out, it also attracts Raccoons which can be very vicious as well as rabid.
Sorry for the long post but they are cuter in a book or the zoo...
