Eastern Towhee

We had a fun visitor yesterday, eating the black hulled sunflower seeds on our patio. The seeds fell out of our hanging bird feeder, and a Rufus-sided Towhee enjoyed the feast.
I read that they live from British Columbia south to California, Guatemala and also live in Florida.
I think of Towhees as cousins of another of my favorite birds, the Robin.

What a lovely pretty bird Terra, I have never heard of it. I think seeing pretty birds feeding in our very own gardens is a real joy.
We were recently on holidays in the Australian bush only 30kls from where we live, and the bird life was just incredible. We enjoyed lots of breakfasts on the deck watching them feed.
Thank you for visiting me and being interested in what I do. Crochet is a lot easier than tatting,you should give it a try. I hadn't done it for years until the last couple of weeks. I showed one of my homeschooled students how to do it today and she went home with a little circle. She was so pleased. I can only do the basic stitches taught to me by my grandmother, but that's all you need to do things like I posted about. Nice to have met you xx jeanetteann

Towhees are like live little ornaments hopping around between the roses in my garden. I love them. They catch your eye from the windows.

I have never seen a towhee. It's a very beautiful bird. I can see some resemblance to a robin in the coloring.
We have the towhee visiting us regularly. In fact, we see both the male and female. She is equally beautiful though a rust color all over with the same light colored belly. For some reason we got into the habit of calling them "Mr. and Mrs. Towhee.
Your photo captured him beautifully. At first, I thought it was a Robin. I don't think I've ever seen a Towhee. Fun to learn about a new to me bird. laurie

Hi there, I love Towhee's; we had them when we lived in Sonoma County and occasionally we see them here but we also get Grackles and I think they scare some of the smaller birds away. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving Terra.
