Wordless Wednesday Amaryllis

Our amaryllis plants surprised us and bloomed in April in 2016. Usually they bloom at Christmas.

Wordless Wednesday, CHARD

Yummy. Delicious Swiss Chard. Cook in a few tablespoons olive oil and some garlic for about 10 minutes. I cut out the stems and cook them first for a few extra minutes, then add the rest of the leaves.

Remember friends, this is Swiss Chard.

Wordless Wednesday and Three Pretty Cards

Three cards from two sweet pen pals of mine. Yes, we exchange cards written on paper via mail. Old school. The Bike and Mother with Babies cards are from Diane at Diane Wants to Write and the Easter card is from Jennifer at Sparrow Tree Journal

Starting Over and Becky mentioned that paper cards can be expensive and Becky suggested Dollar Store. I have found pretty cards at rummage sales at churches for 10 cents each, and Trader Joe's has nice cards that are all 99 cents. In pharmacies and other stores that sell cards look for the 99 cent Hallmark cards. I do often buy fancy cards because they offer something special like art work or encouraging or funny quotes.
Oh, today on Amazon I discovered packs of 20 postcards for six dollars (yes, 30 cents each) so look out world, I will order some today.

Wordless Wednesday, Dancing Yarn Lady

I posted this dancing (falling? acrobatic? tree climbing?) lady once before but I think she is worth looking at again and besides some of you are new to my blog. I saw her on my walks around town.

Funny lemons from one tree, Amazabobs, Wordless Wednesday

We have a Meyer lemon tree that we planted about 15 years ago in an oak wine barrel. The lemons are always standard size but this February I picked this giant lemon from the tree. What is up with that?

Wordless Wednesday Ocean and Retirement

The bay near our house in February 2016.

I have always enjoyed large bodies of water, growing up across the street from Lake Michigan, and now marveling at the changing moods of the Pacific Ocean near our home. Being retired means I walk along the ocean several times a week; the ocean is ever new and the air is so clean.

Wordless Wednesday Camellias at Church and Retirement Volunteer

I took these photos of camellias growing at our church on February 5, 2016.
I saw this camellia on Sunday and couldn't resist bringing my camera with me a few days later to take photos to share with you blog friends.

I am starting my new volunteer path, being a visitor to one or two ladies at a retirement home. One I met on Wednesday February 24 and one I will meet today, March 2. I am looking forward to this new venture, and any tips you have on visiting with retirees in assisted living are greatly appreciated by me. The activity director said the gal I will meet today might enjoy me reading short stories to her.
I have a great book of compiled poems, "Poems to Learn by Heart", edited by Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of JFK, that could work.
Any other ideas?

Wordless Wednesday Broken Heart Lily

This is the Asiatic Hybrid Lily "Broken Heart" which I planted this week. The photo is from Wayside Gardens which sells them.
I put her in a huge pot with one "Black Eye" lily bulb and look forward to their show later this year.
I didn't realize until I planted them that "Broken Heart" and "Black Eye" sound like a cry for help!
Black Eye is pretty, the center is black and the outer half of the petals is white. So I look forward to seeing them in bloom together, pink, black and white.

Wordless Wednesday Bird Bath

I saw this bird bath along the sidewalk while on a walk in our neighborhood this week. Can you read the sign? It says "Don't look, birds bathing". Maybe I will go back and take a more close up photo. It looks like they made the birdbath base with flower pots, which is clever.

Daffodils, Wordless Wednesday

daffodils on a windowsill
Originally uploaded by Muffet

Yes, it is wordless Wednesday and here I am adding words!
I bought 2 bouquets of daffodils, grown in Washington state, for $2 each, at Whole Foods store.
I thought they undercharged me, but I checked and that was the right price.
I gave one bouquet to a friend, who is in her late 80s, and recently moved to assisted living. Sad to say, this is the first time in 20 years of our friendship that I can see my friend is "fading". She was mostly alert and carried on a conversation but did ask me if I've been practicing piano, which I have never played, so that was not good. She was thrilled to have the bouquet, it is so cheery.
