Violets, A Poem

Violets
Originally uploaded by Emily Barney

I love flowers and poems about flowers, and I hope you enjoy my post today about violets.
Do you have volunteer violets at your house? We have a lot of them, a carpet of violets along the alley where we keep our garbage and recycling bins.
I like it when the violets spread, and they don't need any care from me. Once in a while I water them.

"I love all things the season bring,

All buds that start, all birds that sing,

All leaves from white to jet,

All the sweet words that summer sends,

When she recalls her flowery friends,

But chief -- the violet.

by B.W. Procter, better known as Barry Cornwall, from his poem "The Violet."

  1. Pretty violets and poem, Terra. At our last house, these grew so well in poor soil that nothing else thrived in. We always called them "Johnny Jump-Ups" because they so freely re-seeded themselves.
    Have a nice afternoon.

  5. I have three types of violets that I have allowed to just roam at will. A white w/blue-purple face, the typical purple sweet violet and one that is a shade of deep periwinkle.
They grow in the grass, the flower beds, everywhere!
What delights; their cheery faces after a long winter!

  7. Love the violets and love just about anything in the purple family -- violets, iris and lilacs. Thanks so much for your sweet card. It's got a place of honor in my living room.

  8. I love poems about flowers too. Violets are just so pretty and dainty looking. Those things can spread like crazy though but I do not mind. Have a lovely week and weekend.

  9. Violets are gorgeous, I have a great spreading patch of them under some big trees. They are such modest little creatures.

  11. Mmm, one of
    my favorites, Terra!

    We had more volunteers
    when we lived in Illinois,
but I have had a few in
    Minnesota, too.

    Don't they say that violets
are sent to those that need
    them?

    Lovely....

  14. Thank you, Terra, for the kind comment on my Memorial Day post and cat pic. A few posts back, I put a photo of our brand new kitten if you get a chance to see her.
    Blessings to you this weekend.

  15. Cute little poem. I grow no violets and there are no volunteer violets around. I wish there were.

  17. Hi Terra,
Thanks for stoppin by, and yes, I think it is shameful too when they make movies or tell stories that are true faith stories and leave that part out.

  18. I love violets too. They are so pretty. Thank you for your comment on my fairy. The last picture of the trees I didn't take. I saw it on a friend's blog, and she said I could use it cause it went perfect with the quote. Have a lovely day. I can smell the violets from here.

  19. Barry Cornwall. Funny, I'm originally from Cornwall Ontario, Canada. I'm going there tomorrow to be with my sister for the day and night.
