My Mary With Her Roses

This photo is of my Mary garden, with the beautiful pink roses sheltering Mary.
I bought this rose bush long ago at a university plant sale, and don't recall its name, but it flourishes in very little sun. Hurray. At her feet are primroses and a prostrate rosemary.
There are 100 plants with Mary stories, including roses, primroses, rosemary, marigold, calendula, forget me not, snowdrop, carnation, clematis and so many more.
I love to see Mary at the back of the garden, with some sunlight shining on her, and when I see her statue she inspires me to pray in my garden.
Do any of you have a Mary garden?

  1. Very pretty, no I do not have any Marys in my garden. I used to have about 15 or more antique chalkware Madonnas and Jesus , statues and plaques, in my home about 15 years ago or so. I have since sold them ( I sell antiques too ). Thanks so much for the post ! Gina

  3. Beautiful roses. No I don't have a Madonna statue. I have bunnies and a turtle in stone. I never knew there were so many flowers connected to her in stories. Blogging is a great sorce for learning new things :)

  10. Not now. I used to have a little grotto as a child. A beautiful votive or meditation space would do the same.

  11. The roses and statue of Mary are so pretty. I love seeing Mary in the garden, too, and have some photos on my blog right now of Mary in a rose garden that I recently visited.

  12. My Mary is also surrounded with primroses, hyacinths & other spring flowers but the columbine literally dwarfed her this year & we just moved her to the side a bit ... so I could see & enjoy her.

    Yours is lovely, Terra.

  15. What beautiful roses. I can't seem to keep roses over our long, harsh winters here in MN, so I love to enjoy all the pics that friends share with me.

Thanks for sharing your Mary Garden with us, I don't have one of my own, so it was special to see yours!

  16. That is a perfect view of Mary with the roses. I just love it! I will have to take a photo of mine outside too. Mine has no roses around her though.

  17. Very peaceful. I would have a Buddha garden, myself, but I appreciate the sentiment and the tranquility of your planting.

  18. Jodi, my younger son gave me a statue of Buddha, and I put that statue in the vegetable garden.
Sometimes I think "Mary in the flowers, Buddha in the vegetables" and it sounds like the opening line of a poem.

  19. Thanks for stopping by Terra. I love your Mary with her roses. I actually have a rose named Mary Rose. She is pink and hybridized by David Austin. Your looks more charming for sure.

  20. Hi Terra,
Thanks for stopping by. I have a Mary's Garden in my yard and also have helped take care of one at St. Mary's Church in our town. We tried to plant flowers associated with Mary. My garden at home is relatively new and the plants, for the most part, were already there. I have just added a few from time to time. Now, everything is so lush and overgrown....they need dividing.
    Come visit again,
    Balisha
