My Floribunda rose is in its full glory now in May. It is Julia Child floribunda planted in 2018.
I like the tight buds before they open.
The full size watering can shows the size of the bush which is about five feet all and five feet wide. It was small when planted two years ago.
Are you like me in that you greatly enjoy all the flowers and gardens that your neighbors grow?
Bounce gets me to take two walks a day and I love seeing the beauty neighbors provide. A jacaranda tree. California poppies. A stand of sunflowers each summer.
My Neighbor's Roses
The roses red upon my neighbor's vine
Are owned by him, but they are also mine,
His was the cost, and his the labor, too,
But mine as well as his the joy, the loveliness to view.
They bloom for me, and are for me as fair
As for the man who gives them all his care.
Thus I am rich, because a good man grew
A rose-clad vine for all his neighbors' view.
I know from that that others plant for me,
And what they own, my joy may also be;
So why be selfish, when so much that's fine
Is grown for you, upon your neighbor's vine?
written by Abraham Gruber. I haven't found out more about this poet, except some sources say he was a 19th century poet and that his middle initial is L.
There is a difficult to read obituary for him in this 1915 NY Times.

I love the poem, it's so true. Your yellow rose is absolutely beautiful! I just wrote in my last post that my next purchase would be a yellow rose. I've never grown a yellow rose. My mother loved yellow roses.

The yellow roses are beautiful. Enjoyed the poem and totally agree. I really enjoy my neighbor's flower garden but also his veggie garden which he eagerly shares. All the pleasure and none of the labor.

ReplyDeleteThe flower invites the butterfly with no-mind;
The butterfly visits the flower with no-mind.
The flower opens, the butterfly comes;
The butterfly comes, the flower opens.

Take care.
Oh Terra, the yellow roses are so beautiful. The poem was lovely, too. Mother Nature is such a giver, isn't she? Such profound loveliness is ours without even asking. Hope you have a blessed week. Susan p.s. Thanks so much for all the visits.

ReplyDeleteThe poem is VERY nice!
That is a sweet poem and beautiful roses here too. Always a pleasure to stop by and say hello. HUGS across the miles.
ReplyDeleteI love that pottery - it is so colorful and will look great on your fence. The Chihuahua pillow is adorable too. We all love our babies,don't we? Bounce is such a cute and sweet little one and I'm sure great company for you. Those yellow roses simply take my breath away with their beauty! Yellow roses always remind me of my Mother as that was her favorite rose.
ReplyDeleteYour yellow roses are beautiful, Terra. What a sight that must be to see them in your garden!
ReplyDeleteI also enjoyed reading your thoughts on the previous post during this time. Yes, Instacart is a great way to get our groceries. Nel orders me groceries every two weeks, so I really have to be selective in my choosing. And I'm running out of Lysol and can't find it anywhere.
So glad to hear that Bounce is a happy fellow. It's good that your pet is there for you, always being a loyal companion.
I love that Mexican pottery, it's so lovely. I've seen shops that carry this type of pottery and have always admired it. It will look nice hanging up near your garden.
I hope you have many good June days, Terra, and just catching up on what's happening in your life. Your sons are so special coming to see their Mom often. : )
