Poems in my neigbhor's yard and my husband

The photo above is of a poetry holder in my neighbor's yard. Isn't that a brilliant idea? He or she changes the poems about once a month and they are always a treat to read as Bounce and I take our walks.
Below is a favorite poem, not from the neighbor's posting, but one I like. Today would have been my husband Will's 71st birthday and I am thinking of him and how his candle glowed amidst the winds of life.

CANDLE AGAINST THE WIND

I know that I have life
only insofar as I have love.
I have not love
except it comes from Thee.
Help me, please, to carry
this candle against the Wind.

  1. Isn't that just how we feel sometimes....Like we are a fragile candle flame battlling against the strong winds of life. What a great idea to have 'poetry holder' in your yard.

  7. Never seen a sign like that at a private house before - nice idea. Anniversaries of various kind are always hard, aren't they (when you rather recently lost someone, I mean). ♥

  14. This is such a touching post. I love the idea of a poem holder. Question: Is for anyone to add a poem, or just your neighbor? I'm thinking of those boxes people have to add/take a book. I love the poem. Candles do represent the human faith and resilience.

Happy Birthday to Will, in heaven. And best wishes to you and how you have bravely and gracefully lived past this incredible loss.

  17. What a wonderful idea! How great to post something like that where walkers can pass by and pause for some encouragement. Who knows where that can lead, what good it can do? Thanks for sharing this idea with us, Terra (and thinking of you today)! Blessings, Debra

  29. What a great idea, to have a poem among the flowers. Being me, I am wondering how he keeps things dry from dampness and rain.
