Breakfast

Hi Friends. Flower Lady Lorraine at Flower Lady's Musings mentioned breakfasts recently and that got me inspired to write this post.
Here are some of my favorite breakfasts: Shredded wheat, 365 Fruit and Nut Muesli from Whole Foods, oatmeal and  Cheerios. We like to add fruit in season, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, bananas. I buy organic berries when I can, or pick blueberries from our two bushes.
The carbs in these cereals are more healthy than overly processed carbs in most cereals and they have no or little sugar.
I had a couple years having pre-diabetes blood sugar levels, so I cut way back on sugar and overly refined carbs and now I am in the healthy range. I read that white rice, most cereals and white bread are no nos if you have any blood sugar issues. So I eat more whole grains which these cereals are. Plus, remember to exercise most every day, for about 30 minutes. Walking is great, and also using a treadmill.

Above is a photo of muesli. Another favorite for breakfast is Quaker Oats 1 minute oatmeal. I am sure any brand is good. For one person take one half cup oatmeal and one cup milk and microwave for one and a half minutes. Stir and microwave 30 seconds more. Add what you like. I add a bit of whipped cream, a teaspoon of brown sugar and some raisins or dried cranberries. Fresh fruit on top is good. Yum, and healthy too.
What is your favorite breakfast?

  4. My goodness you eat a healthy breakfast! I usually don't have very much for breakfast during the week but on weekends I fix eggs and sausage and toast for my hubby and myself. We probably should be eating more like you!

  5. I make refrigerator oatmeal; 1/2 cup slow cooking oats and 1/2 cup milk. Stir together and put in the frig, at least overnight. In the morning, stir in fresh fruit. I do two containers at a time. It lasts for 4 days. I love it in the summer!

  6. Hi Terra! You'll think this is weird but my favorite breakfast is salmon. Cold. (Cooked, of course! LOL!)
I finally remembered to add your blog to my blog roll.
Thank you for coming by my blog to say hello! Yes, you ARE a hoarder if you hoard flower seeds! Just kidding! I bought WAY too many this year!

  7. I can't eat sugar at all. I have some kind of crazy allergic reaction to it. I eat some fruit but not a lot. My favorite breakfast is old fashioned Quacker oatmeal, with cinnamon on top and fruit on top of that. Right now, it's blueberries or peaches. I love breakfast! It's my favorite meal of the day. 8. I can't handle oatmeal...evidently I don't need fiber as much as most do. I buy organic cereals but I find a couple eggs really fuel me better than other things like cereal or toast. I must need the protein. I vary it throughout the week but if I really need to have energy on a certain day I make sure I have eggs.

  9. Sam I Am makes a great point about protein. Eggs for breakfast are a great choice instead of carbs. Sometimes I have eggs for dinner and I snack on nuts as a healthy snack which also have protein.

  13. My breakfast is oatmeal with blueberries [sometimes apples and cinnamon]. Each and every day.

Every once in a while Bud and I will go out for breakfast then, it's bacon and eggs. Like once in a blue moon.

  14. Sadly, the only thing I'm certain to have for breakfast is lots of coffee.

I should do better. On the rare occasion that I make breakfast it's usually cheese toast or a couple of scrambled eggs. I've never been big on sweet stuff in the morning.

Your breakfast looks wonderful. I should really try to follow your example and eat a small, healthy meal like that along with my coffee. :)

  15. I haven't eaten breakfast since I was a teenager...but if I am hungry I grab a muffin...I have also been known to have Cheezies for breakfast if my kids are not looking. hahaha.
I popped over to say hi when I saw your comment on my 'boobs'...thanks so much girl for your kind words. :) I also am glad to have stopped...as for whatever reason I was not following you! Not sure how that can be...since I have loved your blog for years! ugh.
anyways...have a great week...hope to have a chance to stop by again soon! xxx

  16. Your breakfasts sound delicious. We have oats and all bran each morning with yoghurt and fruit of some kind. Not sure about the one minute oats. Hubby and I were both diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes 20 years ago (both had different symptoms) and I am sure I read somewhere the one minute oats were not so good for us. Definitely stick to low GI foods but even there it can be deceptive 'cos chocolate is low GI so you do have to be on your toes when it comes to eating well with diabetes.

  17. Thanks for dropping in at Drifting.
I've never thought of adding whipped cream to oatmeal. I add sugar and malt syrup to mine if I'm having it plain, but more often I used rolled oats and chopped dried fruits, soak overnight in water, then add a dash of milk to cook in the morning. The fruits add plenty of sweetness so no sugar is needed.
I don't think I use whipped cream on anything except apple pie.

  21. Oh, this sounds wonderful! I tend to drink two cups of coffee in the morning and it's not until 9:30 or 10:00 that I get hungry so I always grab some greek yogurt. I will have to try this :)

    Have a lovely week! Hugs!
