Greek food festival

My husband and I love Greek food and went to the local Greek Food Festival run by the Greek Orthodox church members, in the town in California where we live.
No, we were not at the above place charming though it is but in a sunny area behind the church complete with palm trees, shade umbrellas and live music.
Moussaka, a favorite dish which has eggplant, a custard or Bechamel sauce, and can have ground beef.
Breaded and lightly friend calamari or squid. Very tender.
Above is a traditional delicious Greek salad. I don't have a photo of the eggplant stuffed with meat or of the spanakopitta we also had, which is a spinach stuffed baked pastry in thin sheets of filo dough.
All delicious. This fair is every May and September. Come and join us next time.

  5. Greek food is so good. I've eaten out at two different restaurants lately and had Gyros with that wonderful tzatziki sauce. Both were good, but not as good as I had from a Greek restauarant. DH and I both liked/like moussaka and of course Greek salad.

  6. That must have been a great meal - I love it when I find a church or community centre putting on a meal like this.

  7. Wonderful! Went to Greece once to visit a friend and enjoyed the food. But it was also the year of an unexpected heat wave and boy was it hot since we were only able to run the air conditioning at night.

  9. Great calamari! I've only been brave enough to eat it in the last year or so - didn't know what I was missing. Cheers from Carole's Chatter!

  14. So jealous! When our children were young, we would travel to a town about 30 minutes away to visit a fabulous Greek restaurant, a diner really. The meal would begin with a Greek salad, followed by soup. I always chose the chicken noodle, which was not like any chicken noodle I had ever tasted before. Then the entree. I always chose the moussaka - it it was a treasure - the meat and potatoes on the bottom, topped by that creamy, amazing layer - at least an inch thick! mmmmmm Unfortunately when the owner retired, his children did not want to continue and the place is just a burger joint now. I would go crazy at a Greek festival!
