I bought this bouquet of coreopsis at our neighborhood farmers' market this Saturday. This kind is a special treat with their dark maroon centers. In the language of flowers, coreopsis means "always cheerful."
Walt Whitman (1819-1892) wrote that as he traveled across the USA "I have been accompanied on my whole journey from Barnaget to Pikes Peak by a silent little follower", the coreopsis growing wild everywhere.
This post and photos make me feel happy : )
ReplyDeleteCheerful is a good word for these pretty flowers. This bright yellow bouquet would make any room sunny and happy.

ReplyDeleteThese are sweet blooms. They are Florida's state wildflower. :-) I need some of these in my own gardens.

Now I know the name of the flowers that sprang up in my yard. They grew from seed - a long forgotten wildflower mix I had bought. Hardy little guys.
ReplyDeleteThank you!
I have plain yellow ones, I didn't know they could be varigated like that--very lovely! And cheerful;)
ReplyDeleteJust gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteHi Terra. I'm so glad to hear what this sweet little flower's name means. It is very fitting for a flower that just makes me feel cheerful when I see it. They are my all time favorite when added into any bouquet. I have a bush just starting to bloom now. I don't know if it is a coreopsis or not, although it looks like one only rust colored with brown center. It made me cheerful to see it knowing that fall is close by
ReplyDeleteAlways cheerful indeed. I think we may have some on our roadside. I'll be on the look out next time I'm out and about. Blessings friend
