I bought a new type of bird feeder for us, that is a net bag filled with thistle seeds.
This photo is from Flickr, not taken by me, so you don't need to compliment my photography. Go ahead if you like, though. LOL
We have 2 of the tube type feeders that I fill with black sunflower seeds and with a seed and nut mix.
I know many of you, my bloggy buddies, also feed birds. It's so fun to watch them and their antics, and to help them.
We also plant bushes and flowers and trees that birds like. Our mulberry tree is a favorite with a flock of Cedar Waxwings.
The aim of the new thistle feeder is to attract a wider variety of birds including Goldfinches.

ReplyDeleteI love to watch birds and especially take pictures of them, but they always fly away too fast. I need a bird feeder like this so they will stay a bit longer. These yellow birds are so pretty.

One of my neighbors used to feed thistle seed and my yard became invaded with thistles, so I won't use that here. I hate those sticky things. I love the feeder, though and have not seen anything like it. I suppose I could make one of them and see if it works with the other bird seed.

We have one hanging from our grape arbor and it draws hundreds of goldfinches. The bigger birds eat what spills on the ground. It's a delight to watch them all.

I originally had the sock feeders, and my little finches wasted so much. More on the ground than in their tummies. I now have a plastic tube with 6 feeding holes, it doesn't waste as much seed.

This is a really cool and different feeder. I love to feed the birds and have several feeders but haven't seen one like this before.
ReplyDeleteI have seen these. Might have to send my husband out for one. He loves to feed the birds. We have two feeders and a suet hanger in the yard already, but these last few days the days have been sooooo cold and we are trying to make sure the local birds survive.

My hubby is the bird feeder in the family. He has many feeders all over our property and every night, no matter the weather, he trudges around filling them all. When I look outside and see dozens of Cardinals, I appreciate him more.
ReplyDeleteRosaria, we do not have trouble with squirrels or racoons eating from the bird feeders or destroying them. The feeders are under the eaves of our roof and they would need to be acrobatic to reach them.

Birds are fun to watch. I bet your new feeder will bring more around to entertain you.

ReplyDeleteWe had a thistle feeder like that, but it ripped! Oy. But it was fun watching the little birds cling to the netting to eat.

ReplyDeleteIsn't it fun to find a new kind of bird feeder....I am always looking for different ones to add to my collection (if you want to call it that) some are pretty and some just functional....I know the birds are happy for the food whatever way we find to display it...
