Amaryllis, Time to Plant
Amaryllis / Ἀμαρυλλίς
Originally uploaded by pittigliani2005
I bought a nice fat Amaryllis bulb a week ago and planted it, for red and white color in my kitchen in December.
Now is the time to plant these beauties; just find a pot only a tiny bit bigger than the bulb. Ceramic is good because the pot weighs a bit so it will not topple over when the Amaryllis blooms.
I bought a Razzle Dazzle Amaryllis bulb, which will look much like the bloom in this photo.
Anyone else love Amaryllis?
Amaryllis come in a range of colors today, with even a lime green flower, and vibrant solid red, pure white, and salmon.
For photos my husband took of our crimson all red amaryllis, check my list of blog subjects on the right hand side of this blog and click on Amaryllis.
I love these beauties!! I will have to go get one....

This is just lovely. Will it bloom before Christmas? I would love to have one in the living room. The color is perfect for the Holidays.
ReplyDeleteYes, I love those flowers. I should try growing them myself like you did. It's more affordable that way and I could watch it grow. Good idea! I like paperwhites too. That would go with my silver and white Christmas decor.
ReplyDeleteI haven't had one in years. My FIL use to send me one.
ReplyDeletewow what a great idea.. I have seen these bulbs at Home Depot , here... xo HHL
ReplyDeleteThat's just beautiful! :)
ReplyDeleteI love them...they are giants!! I will be picking up a few bulbs soon! Yours is going to be gorgeous!!

I do love these, but have never grown one myself. Do you have to do anything special to it (like keep it in fridge) to get it to bloom indoors in the winter?
ReplyDeleteWhat a gorgeous flower! I hope yours does well for you.
ReplyDeleteThis is a master peice
ReplyDeleteHi All. To Beyond my garden, I am a bit jealous you have six! I have 3.
ReplyDeleteKelly, there are pure white Amaryllis to go with your white and silver theme.
Garden of daisies, no you don't need to put the bulb in the refrigerator to chill it so it is quite easy peasy.
Just remember to turn the pot as the bulb shoots up so it will grow straight up.
I love them! Thanks for the reminder.
ReplyDeleteI do love them!! You have made me want to go out and get a bulb or two. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see them in bloom.

Beautiful colors! This will really brighten up the kitchen in the winter months.
ReplyDeleteOne of my very favorite flowers. I also love paper white narcissus.
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful. You're inspiring me!
ReplyDeleteI always hope that somebody gives me an amaryllis for christmas, I like the big bold flowers during the dull time of January and February.
ReplyDeletePerhaps planting one myself now, to have it flower at christmas, is even better.
Excellent idea.
Can you believe I have never bought one? My mom pots up about three of them every year, and I am left saying 'oh why didn't I?'
ReplyDeleteI will be off later to buy one of these. I give them away at Christmas for gifts but I never have one. Well now its time. lol. Cheers, LJ
