Pink Roses and Our Lady

I wish I knew the name of this rose but I don't, so to me it is my Mary rose, since it shelters a statue of Mary in my garden. I bought this rose about 20 years ago at a rare and heirloom plants sale at a university, and I lost track of this pretty rose's name. It does well in part shade, thank goodness, as the gigantic tree behind it grows ever taller and casts more shade.
I earned some money from writing a gardening article about 15 years ago, and treated myself to the cement statue of Mary, and put her in the shelter of the roses, since roses are considered a Mary flower and there are many links to Mary and roses over the centuries.

Each year as it blooms this rose bush looks like a full bouquet to me. Do you have roses like this?

    Well, it is LOVELY and I wish I knew the name of it. Seems so fitting for Mary too, although I think of her with lavender, her cloak thrown over it and changing it from white to lavender-blue.

    I love love love those roses! They are BEAUTIFUL!!! I would love to have some like this but I don't. Most of the roses in my yard are the new "knock-out" rose bushes that are so hardy.

    Oh, I love a Mary Garden! Your Mary rose is so pretty. Our Lady statue is nestled among the wild ivy and creeping myrtle at our home.

    I commented about roses a while ago, on somebody else's blog. And we were talking about how small miniature roses have no smell to them. And she was saying, that at one time, she had small miniature roses that did have a fragrance.

    Anyway, she sent me a bunch of links to some miniature roses. I haven't been able to look through them all, but I hope to one day. And hopefully, find a small miniature rose that does have a nice fragrance to it.

    Also, my mom mentioned to me a while ago, that she went on a trip to Texas one year, and there was a huge rose bush there. You weren't allowed to pick from it, but that if you wanted any clippings from the bush you had to ask somebody. Either they would pick some for you or there was some recent clippings already available. Anyway, my mom was telling me that the smell from this bush was just beautiful and not only that, it was so strong and fragrant.

    I have a bush rose, with small pink blooms called Cecil Brunner. It does well here in the Northwest, and it propagates easily. I love it. Yours may be a C B too.

    Take it to a plant sale by Master Gardeners. They will know the name.

    None so lovely as yours...it truly is a gorgeous rose bush. The only rose I have is the potted knockout rose.

    They are beautiful roses! They do look like a bouquet and I love your Mary statue. Are you familiar with the "Mary Gardens", that people plant? I have read about them on line.
    We have a lovely pink rose bush in our yard, as well as a deep red one. You have inspired me to look for a statue of Mary, to put by the pink one. We have a bird bath, wind chimes and large stone in that area now and I think the statue would be perfect. I will post a picture of the rosebush on my side bar.

    My favorite rose bush died this year. :( It was a gift from my girl when she married. I don't know WHAT happened... I'm sooo sad.

    What a pretty combination. I was also looking at your heliotrope post because I bought one, tempted by the scent description, only to find my nose reads it differently to everyone else...to me the smell is like a new eraser - unexpected, but not unpleasant, though I hope everyone will smell vanilla or cherry pie.

    It is a really pretty and it does look pretty blooming behind Mary. I'm not sure what it is either. Garden web has some rose forums and maybe someone on there could help you.

    Yes, lovely in the garden. I enjoyed researching Mary and the rose for a paper I did in English Lit on emblem books - very interesting. Very peaceful and compassionate icon, easy for me to relate to, though not a Christian as such. Thanks!
