I bought a nice fat Amaryllis bulb a week ago and planted it, for red and white color in my kitchen in December.
Now is the time to plant these beauties; just find a pot only a tiny bit bigger than the bulb. Ceramic is good because the pot weighs a bit so it will not topple over when the Amaryllis blooms.

Let's go to the wharf and have an outdoor picnic there, with the main course being fresh oysters. So we brought water, soda and french bread with us and bought a dozen blue point oysters.
The wharf sells mostly fresh caught local fish but the Blue Point oysters were from the East Coast and were delicious. There are eleven little beauties here, from one seed potato that I planted in the ground. The seed potatoes I bought are Yellow Finn heirloom organic. The first meal I fixed with them I sliced them thickly, chopped one clove of garlic, and sauteed them in olive oil. Delicioso, I must say.

I wanted to show you that this Canterbury Bells plant is giving prodigious numbers of belled flowers, from a tiny and hopeful beginning in a four inch pot. It amazingly survived a harsh attack, just before the flowers opened, as the stem was half way broken through. It looked like someone or something heavy stomped it, a raccoon? Anyway it survived the harsh attack and is flourishing.

I did it! I planted 3 organic heirloom Yellow Finn seed potatoes in my 5 gallon pail.
My husband drilled about 10 quarter sized holes in the bottom of the pail, I tore up a cardboard egg box and put it in the pail for drainage, filled it with one foot of potting soil, and put in the potatoes and covered them with 4 inches of soil.

Long ago the ship had dining and dancing and gambling on it, later that ended and people could walk on the ship and fish. Now as the ship is aging and a danger to walk on, it is blocked off but you can still walk along the pier.

I treated us to a bouquet of daffodils and put them in this blue vase, which brought spring right in to our kitchen. Daffodils at Whole Foods were one bunch for $2.50 so I couldn't resist buying TWO bunches. These golden beauties make me smile whenever I enter the kitchen and see them glowing sun yellow on the table.

R . Sargent Shriver, with many accomplishments to his credit, including founding the Peace Corps, died January 18, 2011 at the age of 95, and I treasure the following words that his son Mark, said about him. I hope these same words describe me, and they are an ideal to aim for, that is for sure.

Brrr, so many of my blog friends are posting beautiful photos of snow that to warm up I needed to buy a bright plant for our garden.

I received a Christmas gift two days ago, sent to me by a relative. She was unhappy that the packages arrived late, but I told her that it is like celebrating Christmas again.
Her gift selection was just right for us: two bird houses with hearts on them. I put the larger one in the garden next to the bird bath and hung the smaller one under the eaves of our house.

For 2011 I am choosing a word as the word to inspire me all year. Do any of you do that? This is the first year I will be doing this.

Ah, the humble parsnip. Parsnips remained a mystery to me until about 5 years ago, when a relative showed me how to prepare them.
Let me tell you, parsnips are delicious.
Her directions are: peel them and slice thin, about five slices per inch.
Boil water, put in parsnips and cook them on low boil for 5 to 10 minutes.

In the church I attend, these Advent Sundays include a rather dark church and 3 tall Christmas trees at the front, shining with white lights as the main illumination and decoration.

My friend hand painted this wooden Santa Claus, and this year it joins my home's decorations. She painted it in 1992, I know because she wrote that on the back.
My friend was an expert in Tole painting and in Folk painting, and took classes as far away as Russia and taught many artists over the years.

Shall I give up trying to get the local squirrels to stop planting raw peanuts in the shell, all over my backyard?
Oh the naughty dear ones dig up a plant, bury the peanut and leave, so each morning I am likely to find the plant lying on the soil, and I quickly replant it.
When this happens to a plant several times it begins to look quite raggedy.

I grow the Rainbow Swiss chard, which has stems that are red or yellow or white, since it is so pretty.
Last night I cooked it in my favorite way. First I cut off the thickest stems and sauted the stems in olive oil with plenty of chopped garlic.

Do you love Coleus plants? Last week I bought a 6 pack of all different Coleus. Wow.

Now that I discovered a source of natural free range chicken liver, I have begun cooking it again. 
As long as the source is good, like the Rocky Jr. Frying Chicken liver I found in our local natural food store, this is a healthy and delicious dish.
