Fun books from library book sale

Oh happy day. Saturday, May 16, I happened to go to the downtown library and they were having a huge sale of books in a large parking lot. It was the end of the sale and they said I could fill a bag with books for five dollars. I put ten books in the bag, so that is fifty cents each friends.
The top of the pile book is Passionate Nomad: The Life of Freya Stark by Jane Fletcher Geniesse. Stark was a daring adventurer especially in wild areas of the Middle East.
One Good Turn by Kate Atkinson.
Straight Man by Richard Russo.
Village School by Miss Read. I read two in this wonderful series about life long ago.
Mollie Peer by Van Reid. The first in the series is humorous. This is the second.
Sight Hound by Pam Houston.
Half Broke Horses: A True Life Novel by Jeannette Walls. Author of The Glass Castle which I read.
The Racketeer by John Grisham.
The Lady in the Palazzo: An Umbrian Love Story by Marlena de Blassi. A memoir of a husband and wife buying a home in Italy. My husband and I read many ex-pat memoirs by people who move from one country to another. We like humorous ones especially, like Victoria Twead's.
Telex From Cuba by Rachel Kushner. "The first novel to tell the story of the Americans who were forced out of Cuba in 1958." When I grabbed this at the sale I assumed it was a memoir; it does sound good even as a novel.
To enhance my mood even more, the beloved Greek Festival was across the street and I bought my husband and I each a baklava dessert. The festival is held on the grounds of the Greek church, and those Greek ladies and the men too sure know how to cook delicious food.
In the past two weeks my husband and I gave about 20 books we already read to our favorite neighborhood Little Free Libraries. We aim to give away as many as we buy to keep our book collection within limits.
I am a retired librarian and I have written two books, and we both love reading. It is almost an addiction; I think we are biblioholics.
ADDED NOTE: As of October 6, 2015 I have not read even one of these 10 books. My TBR stacks are large, as you can imagine.

Oh what fun! I love book sales and it looks like you made some wonderful choices. I've read Half Broke Horses and LOVED it! And I'm giving away as many as I read lately, too. Enjoy your day. (I'm going to try to start posting about books on Fridays if you want to join me) Sweet hugs, Diane

I love library books sales - so glad the season is finally here! My goal every year is to donate more than I buy.

I see several books there I'd like to read, especially Passionate Nomad and the Miss Read books. Also remember enjoying Straight Man a number of years ago. Happy reading :)

Good haul! I picked up a book by Freya Starck the other day but didn't buy it in the end. I would be interested in your review, she is a fascinating woman.

Books, oh how I love thee...let me count the ways! LOL! Book sales are dangerous for me...I have so many already and I'm not a speed reader. Good idea to take out before you bring in. I do donate to the library which ends up selling them.
I am listening to the audio of Half-Broke Horses now and I think it is one of the best books on the life of a pioneering woman. You know it's good when you don't want it to end. The author reads it and she does a great job. Of course, it is about her grandmother. I hope you enjoy it as much as I am presently. I have 1 cd to go but it is so good I think I might try and get a copy of the book too.

Oh Terra, I LOVE the used book sales at the library. So many of my books came from those. The problem is, I don't like to part with the books once they are read. My shelves are overflowing. Susan p.s. Thanks so much for your visit.

Now that sounds like a PERFECT day to me. I always wanted to be a librarian - couldn't afford college though. I taught myself to read at age two, just like my mom and oldest son, lol. Books are my addiction for sure, always have been! It's the cheapest way to travel. :)

You have several authors there I've never heard of, I'll have to catch up on some of them. Of course, John Grisham is one of my favorites.

I love book sales too. I love them here and I also enjoyed them when I was in Tennessee. Miss read is my favourite authoress and I have all her books now. I re-read them constantly because they give me a feeling of safety, as if all is right with the world.
I always wanted to be a librarian. I did the next best thing, I became a school secretary.

those books sound great and a couple I need to put on my list to read! Our umbrella is anchored down by some concrete pavers so it won't blow away. However we don't leave it open when it is windy either.
