Little Free Libraries in my neighborhood

Do you love libraries and books and free, like I do? Well, the Little Free Libraries trend embraces all three of these delightful things.
There are three that I know of in my neighborhood. All you need to do to have one is to build a container with glass doors to protect the books and put up words on it that say "take one, give one".
The photo above is a very cute Little Free Library, don't you agree?
Here is the second one in my neighborhood, just a short walk from my home.
I wonder if every country has these little free libraries. My blog friends can tell me, do people in Indonesia, Germany, Kuwait, Australia and more have them? I hope so, they are fun and encourage folks to read.
This photo was taken on a dark wet morning as you can tell, and the books are safe from the rain in their snug library with glass doors that close securely.
To the left is a second Free Library for children. Isn't that thoughtful? They built it a lower height so children can reach it.
These libraries are all about giving and seem like a Christmas themed post to me.

Hi Terra, I drove by one of these little libraries in a neighborhood of Pittsburgh who needs it and was very heartened by it. Thanks for sharing this and Merry Christmas to you and your family and a happy and healthy 2015! xo

At the entrance to our apartment complex someone placed a little Free Library that looks very much like the first photo. I think it is a great idea. Wish these had been around when I was a kid.

I've seen them before and I love the idea. I'd love to make one if I knew how. I may have to investigate and I REALLY love the little one for children. Merry Christmas!

Terra,
These free libraries are a great idea. I've seen them before, but I don't have one in my neighborhood. That's so sweet that the children's box is at a level for them to reach it.

Merry Christmas to you and your family.

love,
~Sheri

These are the best ideas I've ever seen. I've only encountered one in a little town in Wisconsin. Brilliant!

This is so neat! I have not heard of this before! I love books and all my kids love books! I know many can not afford books and the library is a wonderful resource. I go to the thrift stores all the time and lately I have been buying my lil grandbaby childrens books. The Golden Books are so expensive and getting them for fifty cents to a dollar is awesome! One day I found a childrens books autographed by the author. Well, I googled her and she had recently passed away. My daughter chuckled and said "keep that book mom, it might be a collectors edition!" My uncle had a copy of the Good Earth by Pearl S Buck. I know it was a really old edition and it was perfect. He wanted me to have it but when my sister inherited the house she boxed up all their book collections and shoved them in the attic! SO sad!

What a delight! I don't think our weather would be conducive to those but I would love seeing them!

I would LOVE to see one of these in person.

There really should be something like that where I live, but then again... most of my neighbors are cattle. Lol!

These are each one so wonderful! I wonder if we have any here! Sweet hugs!

I saw one on a pre-Christmas Housewalk! I've been wanting to put one in front of our house for a long time. I THINK there is an organization that one can join to be official - but I have no need/desire to be "official".

This is going to be on my to-do-list for 2015!

Oh I wished we had something like that in our neighborhood. We did have a free bookshelf thingy at a local muffin and bagel shop but when the new owner took over; he threw out the shelves and the books. What a great idea.

Hi Terra, Oh I enjoyed these photos so much. You are fortunate to have these nearby. Little Free Library has a blog and I enjoy seeing photos from around the world of the little libraries. If I were a big traveler, I would enjoy looking for one wherever I went!
