Random 3, hummus, ebooks and tv

Sometimes I am in awe of the interesting posts you bloggers write.

I have gathered here a couple of my random thoughts since I don't have an idea for a big post.

First thought: Delicious and healthy lunch I had today: hummus, bagel chips and baby carrots.

Second thought: I wanted a Kindle Fire HD for Christmas and received it. Yay. I am enjoying reading books on it, this is my first ereader. It has the word Fire in the name which means I can also use it to surf the internet, read and send email, etc. I have two Jane Austen books on my ereader, one was free and one was $1.99. I like those prices but I do NOT like the average price of $9.99 for many new books.

The publishers must make a huge profit on that price. Their costs are so low, I think they should charge less. But who listens to me? Ebooks means publishers do not have to buy the paper and print the book and move it to a warehouse and retrieve it when ordered. A more fair price might be 3 or 4 dollars as far as I'm concerned. So far I have not paid that large price for a new book; I would rather buy a print copy in a local bookstore, new or used.

I still prefer printed books and everything about them. Still, ebooks have their usefulness too.

Third random thought is that my dh and I enjoy Downton Abbey AND Walking Dead. Does that make us well balanced? Or confused? Ha ha.

I had a Kindle for Christmas, I am enjoying this new way to read. Nothing compares with actual paper books though does it?

I keep hearing about hummus but haven't tried it yet. I assume you like it?

I have never seen Walking Dead but I DO enjoy Downton Abbey! The episode where they are playing a card game downstairs made me smile! We play that game and call it NUTS!

I still read books made of paper....but I love reading blogs online. Someday I amy try to read a book 'online' but I'll have to borrow the devise!

I don't buy many ebooks either. I try to find them while they are free or go to the library for books! We love Downton, too...don't know the other show! Hugs!

I don't have any "on line" books, but like Linda..the old paper ones. I have enjoy several of John Grisham novels, as most of them involve courtroom dramas.

BTW Just got a Jury Duty Notice. I'm sure it will not be a Grisham novel.

I have an older kindle but prefer to search for books at thrift stores and pay next to nothing for them!
I must be the only person who does not watch DA!

I still like the actual book. I like holding a real book. : )
I like Downton too but haven't see the walking dead.

Your lunch sounds like something I would eat.:)
Your choices sound like you are well rounded - even tho Walking Dead does not sound like something I would watch. Downton Abbey - Yes! I don't have a Kindel or other reader - yet. I already spend so much time on the computer reading, etc. right now I don't need another distraction.
Thanks for stopping by. This whole situation has been a nightmare. Waiting for 2 calls right now (as I type) connected to the repairs and cleanup.

If I wrote down my random thoughts people might start to wonder about my sanity ;)

So many ebooks are free or low cost. One of the reasons I love my Kindle.

I haven't made the switch from printed books yet. I love cracking them open and turning the pages. Mr Op listens to books on cd while driving and loves them.

I LOVE DTA!!!

Great post and I much prefer reading books than on a
Kindle. My husband is enjoying his kindle though.
Many thanks for your kind visit and words you left for my brother in law.

Glad you received what you wanted for Christmas. I have one myself.... But listen to this... It's In a drawer and I have only read one book. Btw, I've had it for a while. Gonna have to do better. Enjoy yours!!!!

I LOVE hummus! And I agree with you about the ereaders vs. actual books. Nothing will take the place of a real book, ever, but those ereaders are handy to have.

New ebooks are dear, why not wait for a bit when they become cheap? I go back to early books by writers I enjoy and get them pretty reasonably on IBooks or Amazon.

I love hummus and wrote about the "Hummus Hunters" a few days ago on my blog.

My kindle has become a faithful travel companion ever since I received it for my birthday two or three years ago. Every day on my way to work, I read on it, and of course also on longer travels. Almost all of the 80+ ebooks on it were free ones found in the kindle store.

We're re-watching the seasons of Game of Thrones...in preparation for the new season coming out in February.... probably makes us a bit warped...

An interesting post. Good luck with your new technology and reading!

Thank you. Love love, Andrew. Bye.

I LOVE printed books. I can enjoy it well than technology beacause I dont feel comfort with it when I'm reading.
Thanks for sharing about the book :)

I have tried hummus. I am still pretty old fashioned, I guess! I don't have a kindle and have never downloaded an e-book. :)

Well balanced! No doubt :)

Two of my fav shows also...lol.

It's kind of like opposite ends of the spectrum, but then again we are human, so why should we try to fit in a box that says you may only...

I'm kind of wanting a kindle, but the memory of cracking open a new book with its' fresh page scent is so alluring.

Hi Terra,

I am behind the times (as usual) and still reading "real" printed books. Currently enjoying Jane Austen (again).

We don't have a TV, so I'll have to wait to see Downton when the library has the DVDs. Hubby said he wouldn't watch it anymore after the end of last season. We'll see.

Thanks for saying 'Hi' over at my new little blog - and it's good knowing someone else thinks along the same lines when it comes to blogging. :)

Happy weekend,
Lin

I truly love reading but do not have an e-reader. Question - - with a book before bed, it is relaxing to me but with a reader - - does the light not make you more awake rather than helping you unwind? You know they saw we need to not be on electronic devices because it does not help the chemicals in our brain to shut down naturally.

I use my Kindle Fire every day. I had one of the first ones they made and the screen finally gave up. I wasn't sure I'd like the Fire but I do. I get many books from here: http://www.inspiredreads.com/ There are also places for free books.

Yeah for getting a Kindle. I have a Kobo; Canada's version of a Kindle. There are so many free books to download. I'm pretty sure Kindle has tons of free books too. Give it a try :-)

P.S. I love hummus so your lunch sounds great. I also prefer paper books to ebooks but it is nice that we have options, isn't it?

I'm a big random thought fan. Hummus is one of my standard lunches. I've had a kindle for years -- great for reading on the subway and bus -- and I borrow books electronically from the library. I do feel I owe the library a donation, but even when I wait to get a book I want I'm not spending ten dollars a book. Eborrowing is my best discovery of 2014.

Hello Terra,
I am very interested in learning more about e-books. I do not have any reader yet, and am thinking about it. The prices of the books sound great.
I too love hummus! Yum!
Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and for your kind comment!
Hugs,
Terri

LOL Yes, y'all are very well-balanced. Walking Dead is filmed in Atlanta, and one of my friends was on set a couple of weeks ago…She's a huge fan and was in heaven!

Great post! I do Random Thoughts fairly often, which I may do today since I haven't posted anything in almost a week! I loved reading all of these comments. So many of us are so similar...must be our age group, maybe?! I'm old-fashioned and will probably be one of the last users of an e-reader. I don't want one, even though I know I would love the benefits....such as being able to use a larger font! :)
I'm getting my memoir formatted for an e-book, obviously since so many readers DO have them. I haven't thought that much yet on a price for it, but it certainly won't be $9.99! That IS a lot! Oh, P.S.....Blackberry Lane, you are NOT the only person who doesn't want DA! LOL

Ha, loved your post. I still love a paper book over kindle.

I have a Kindle-type App on my Ipad so I can read books. I have quite a lot but haven't paid for any - all free from Amazon. Not just the out-of-print ones but modern ones. Often they only stay free for a limited time. I still prefer a printed copy (or when I am gardening, ironing, crafting etc - an audio one)
Walking Dead is excellent. I watched the first series of Downton Abbey but havent' watched any more.
Love "Call the Midwife" and "The Bletchley Circle" - lots of lovely 1950's fashions.
Thank you for visiting my blog, I'm glad you get as much pleasure from feeding the birds as we do.

I prefer a real book. However I have an app on my tablet, and all these comments are making me think I should give it a try.

I have to go through some changes of satellite disks to get wifi for my kindle. I still love my paper books, particularly the ones from the thrift store. I enjoy Downton Abbey, but I have never even thought to watch The Walking Dead.

I was going to gift myself a Kindle this year but instead it went to a new sump pump that went out! LOL! Maybe later...I hope you enjoy yours..let me know. I too think the ebooks are rather high.
I've tried hummus several times and do not care for it. I'm not really picky but raw carrots are me least favorite but I love cooked. I'll keep searching for healthier snacks...
Big fan of Downton Abbey and Doc Martin and Call the Midwife. I've not seen the Walking Dead but it sounds like it might give me bad dreams? LOL!
But tonight I will probably watch the Superbowl as I am a big football fan and can catch Downton rerun later. Enjoy!

So you love your Kindle fire? I'm not sure but have heard such good things about it.

Do you need to be connected to the internet the entire time you are reading it?
