My treat to me, Andy Griffith Show

Hi Friends,
Do you ever give yourself a little treat?
I recently bought the DVDs for the entire first season of the Andy Griffith show.
I watched the first episode yesterday and loved it, and it has been many years since I watched the show, which began in 1960.
I found this 4 disc DVD set with 32 episodes on them, brand new for less than $15.00, such a good deal! You know I love a bargain. TV series had 32 episodes per season, back in the day.
TV actors and writers worked hard to create so many episodes in one season; years ago standard series cut back to 22 episodes, and now some series do very few shows each year.
Do you love Aunt Bee? I sure do, I want to hug her and taste her old fashioned cooking. I know it would be delicious. She is introduced in the first episode, and Opie did not like her at first. Aunt Bee could not play baseball with Opie, or go fishing or do other important things. He warms up to her soon enough.
I like how the shows often end with Andy and Opie and Aunt Bee on the porch, with Andy playing guitar and singing country tunes.
What is your favorite old time tv show?

Hello:
Alas, all of this is completely unknown to us but at $15 it really does seem to be an excellent buy and something which, very clearly, you will continue to enjoy.

We actually gave away our television some thirty or so years ago for no other reason than it took up, or so we felt, so much time. We have not, so to speak, looked back.

The problem with our signing as Followers lies with our Hungarian provider. We shall continue to try but in the meantime will check regularly for new posts.

I love this show and watch it everyday! There is always something to learn, and Opie and Andy always have the cutest conversations. The show where Aunt Bea came to live with them is one of my favorites. I'll have to look for the DVD!

That's a good treat! It's one of my favorite old shows. I just told my hubby that someday I would like to visit Mount Airie NC, where Andy grew up.

Oh so much better than the stuff on TV now! Did you see my post on Mayberry? We've stopped there a couple of times on our way to Florida.

Terra, thank you for leaving such a sweet comment on my blog regarding my dad's wedding ring. I feel like he's sending me another message right now while visiting your blog because when dad was sick and staying at our house every day, he would constantly watch Andy Griffith on TV. I love that show, too. How I wish we could go back to those simple days... Thank you for another reminder that my dad is still connecting with me in so many different ways :)... Donna

You are stirring up memories! There was a time when we rarely watched TV. When we sat down to turn it on, there was nothing worth watching. Then came the DVR and we could program the TV to record shows we could watch later when the spirit moved us. So we now watch a number of various shows on our time schedule. But there was a special kind of comedy in the old days. The shows you mentioned were my favorites too. I also liked to watch "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" with Lou Grant!

What a great bargain you got. This was a favorite show of mine, also. Aunt Bee reminded me of my grandma; the show seemed so "real" to me. I never liked the I Love Lucy show. It was a little too silly for me, even as a child!

You are making me want to go get the series, too. We didn't watch it too often, but the times we did I remember loving Aunt Bee, too!! and the whistled theme song! =D Good stuff. Great bargain.

I love that show; used to watch it and still do. I loved all the characters and Don Knotts (Barney Fife) was hysterical. Wish I could find Mayberry.

I had no idea, Opie didn't like Aunt Bee, and I thought I had seen every episode. I loved that show and still catch it once in a while when I am flipping channels...I get such a kick out o Barnie!

I adored Gidget, but there's much to be said for the sweet wholesomeness of Mayberry!

I loved this show also, and who could go wrong by watching it? It gave an example of wholesome living. But then there were not as many single parent families, so to the ones who were, this was an inspiration. I think my favored show back then was The Ghost and Mrs Muir. It was English so may have been missed by some. I also loved Little House on the Prairie, The Waltons, and Benny Hill.

Terre, you'll never believe this, but I just bought a cd of Andy Griffith singing hymns! It was a dollar at the Wilmington, Vermont, antiques and flea market! Woo hoo!

Thanks for your visits and comments to my blog. I appreciate them SO MUCH! Susan

What a perfect treat....enjoy my friend..I just treated myself to the Little Women DVD!

We didn't have TV growing up so I never had a "favorite." My aunt let me watch Adam 12 though and I was hooked. Funny, huh? My treats are usually a book or magazine. And tootsie roll pops--for with the book, of course.

Terra said...

Pamela, I am with you on books being a treat. Because my husband and I buy so MANY books I don't count them as a treat, they are so necessary to life! Ha, ha. Buying a DVD set is much more rare for me, and your idea of a tootsie pop sounds ideal.

I loved that show and yes, I loved Aunt Be! Why can't we have shows like this now? Every episode had me smiling all the way through.
It is so good to finally get over here to read Terra. If you are like me, you have been enjoying the gardening season too.
sending hugs...
