To follow God or to ignore Him

God?
Originally uploaded by DamienHR

In church on Sunday our minister quoted this: "When it comes down to it, many of us do not really want to be led by the Holy Spirit. Or, more fundamentally, many of us don't want to be led by anyone other than ourselves." -- Francis Chan.
C.S. Lewis wrote about this too, and how as a young man and an Oxford professor, he felt he knew all the answers and did not want to defer to God. Lewis called himself the world's most reluctant convert.
Tolkien played a role in converting Lewis to become a Christian, through many talks as friends.
Part of Lewis' conversion experience occurred when his brother was driving him on his motorcycle to the zoo, and Lewis was seated in the motorcycle's sidecar.
You never know just when God will reach you!
The Francis Chan quote is meaningful to me and I hope it speaks to you too.

He just loves to surprise us at the most interesting moments of our lives ... to hear Him.

Have a beautiful week ~

You bet it spoke to me! I have been grappling with not worrying over our finances right now and praying for the peace that God can only give me instead of worrying. This was reiterated what I know God is telling me. "Trust me" is what I'm hearing. Thanks for this post because it was needed.

Sometimes to follow God is easy for me, and sometimes it isn't. As a christian I try to love Him not only with my heart, but with my words, my actions, and my decisions.

blessings,

I'm trying to stay purposeful and open to all messages the universe happens to send my way. We are all part of the big whole, and we must take control of what we do, what we say, how we act.

I think we can all relate to this post today.....often we question what life brings us...but in the end .....it is always God's will that is being delivered....many times we don't like it or try to ignore it....but it just keeps on commin'....just pay attention and pray for acceptance....that's become my motto.

hugs,

Jl

Excellent quote, and I agree. Sadly (so very sadly) there are many professed Christians who choose to live as practical atheists because they refuse to follow the one true God.

I've learned to let go, and let God .... so many people can't find peace because they fight the path that has been laid for them. Wishing you a great rest of the week. Tammy

The hardest part about this, in my opinion anyway, is the not knowing. Like, does God want me to proceed with this project or is his silence indicating that I'm traveling down a wrong path? Faith is much easier when the path is clear. When things get cloudy and you're forced to either step forward or step back not knowing what God wants, it gets really tricky. And sometimes admittedly frustrating.

I read a CS Lewis book a long time ago , I can't remember the name of it offhand, where he spent the better part of the book trying to persuade the reader of proof of God. To me, though, faith is just that. And by definition can't be proven. I wish people would just relax about that whole thing already. But that's just me.

Hi, Terra,
and thank you for this post which gives us a lot to consider. I did not know that Tolkien influenced Lewis for Christ. I always enjoy my visits with you. Enjoy the rest of your week! blessings always ~ Vicki

Terra thanks for visiting me and making a comment over on Retired in Alaska. I have been listening to God for a long time he has never taken me down the wrong path, I've done that myself but I knew better at the time. I can't tell you how blessed I am and I'm thankful each and everyday.

Love this. We all want to be saved and forgiven, but what are we willing to give back. Many follow, but how many yield?
