Here is a photo of what I may try, growing potatoes in a bag. It sounds so easy, and the gophers would be deterred, and my sometimes soggy soil wouldn't rot the taters.
I have never grown potatoes.
With this technique I think you add more soil and cover the leaves as the potatoes begin to grow. I understand you can also grow potatoes in a bucket that has drainage holes in it.
If you have tips on this potato in a bag idea please share them here.

We grew potatoes many, many years ago when our children were in elementary school. We grew them the traditional way & when they were ready to be harvested the children seemed to think they were on a treasure hunt digging them! It is a wonderful memory!!

I'm planning to plant some potatoes. It's my favorite food for one thing. I probably am going to have to look online to see when they need to planted...like what's the best time of year.

I hope yours grows well in the bag. It's sounds interesting to see how they will turn out.

My dad grew potatoes the traditional way in our garden when I was a kid, but I don't remember much about it. Good luck with your method.

Congratulations to Mildred too!

I've never heard of growing potatoes in a bag. I will Google this and find out how you do it. I think it just might work. I have a big problem with gophers, so root vegetables don't do well here but this has possibilities.
Congrats to the winner of the book.

How fun, growing taters in a bag! Had not heard of this, Terra. We used to make ink stamps out of potatoes by cutting a design in the, stamp it in ink & then press onto paper for gifts for our parents.

Have a great weekend, sweet friend.

I have a friend who just lays her potato plugs on the ground and cover them with hay. The plants grow and when it's time to harvest, ya just pull the hay back. Sure beats the heck outta diggin' in the heat of Summer!!!

Love the bag of 'tader idea!

Congratuldation Mildred!!!

God bless and have an amazin' day!!!

Hi Terra!
You will have to keep us all informed of how it goes with the potatoes! Sounds interesting. There is nothing better than fresh potatoes right out of the garden. I know because my neighbor keeps me well stocked in the summer! Maybe your way I could actually accomplish!
