Hi Bloggy friends,

Yes, to answer my own question, I do journey with favorite characters from novels, and look forward to their next adventures.

Today I completed reading "Chasing Darkness" by Robert Crais, an excellent mystery author, with his cool heroes of Elvis Cole and Joe Pike. But now I need to wait to learn more about these guys, until Crais writes another mystery with them in it.

I still have for future reading a stand alone book of his, "The Two Minute Rule" and there is also the Joe Pike novel for me to read, "The Watchman". Hey, Elvis Cole, come on back soon.

My newest book is a Christmas gift, "The Winter Queen", written by Russian author Boris Akunin. Who knows, I may like this guy, Fandorin, the protagonist who is a lowly policeman in Moscow in 1876, and who is only nineteen.

Other favorite book characters of mine are Melrose Plant, Amelia Peabody and Dorothy Wetstra.

I know lots of readers love Jane Austen characters.

Do you have a favorite character to share here with us?

Not a fan of Jane Austen (I know, scandalous for a person with two degrees in English!). I think my favourite characters tend to be flawed but enduring and endearing none-the-less; John Rebus in Ian Rankin's mysteries; some of Timothy Findley's characters, like Mrs. Noyes in Not Wanted on the Voyage, and Minna in the Bragg and Minna short stories (sorry,I did my MA thesis on Findley so I can go on about him at length). And any character in an Alistair MacLeod short story or his novel No Great Mischief pierces me to the quick. And Margaret Atwood. And and and...
I read so much for work purposes that I tend to mostly buy mysteries for relaxation purposes, and I'm really fond of some Canadian literature writers. But I also know I'll never, ever get to read all the books I should and want to. Perhaps if I gave up doing anything else....

Well, my favorite character of all times is Ayla of Jean Auel's Earth's Children. I read the first one in philosophy class a few years ago as an assignment. My life was changed forever. It was Clan of the Cave Bears. Absolutely my favorite fictional character of all time. There have been 5 books. The male hero is Jondalor.Been waiting for the 6th one for years. I just heard the 6th one will come out this year. But I will believe it when I see it. I love Jane Austen and lots of others, but Ayla is the best.

After almost half a century of reading, I have to say that my all time favorite is still Anne (with an "e") Shirley from the Anne of Green Gables series by Lucy Maude Montgomery. She's just so darned optimistic and irrepressible and loving.

hullo. how are you dear? Its true that every one's favorite characters need to be different but I have seen after reading various books, that I prefer those characters who have innocence somewhere hiding in them! Emma is a novel which I read in these winter holidays, and my favorite characters are Emma and Mr. Knightly from Emma and Jane and Darcy from pride and prejudice. I' m an Austen fan.
thanks for making us know why we like them?

I love reading about your favorite characters. Jodi, my dh and I are reading the Ian Rankin series, in order of course. John Rebus is a troubled guy! Now I will check out Timothy Findley.
Naqvee, you inspire me to read Emma, Queenmother to read more Jean Auel, and Sandy to read Anne of Green Gables.
I know what you mean about innocence, Naqvee; and some of my favorites have a comic flavor, like Melrose, Dorothy and Amelia.

I am feeling so bad...reading has taken a back seat to writing, blogging, kids, and life lately. I am not sure who my favorite character from a novel is. I loved the Glass Castle but I think that is more autobiographical.

Hands down, Scarlett O'Hara. I loved her spunk, her tenacity, her loyalty (to Tera, of course), her determination, and her unpredictablitly which is what surely attracted Rhett Butler.

Dare I say as a child I loved Nancy Drew because she was a detective. I particularly admired Claire from the Diana Gabaldan novels. She's a doctor who time travels back to the 1700's in Scotland and has to use natural remedies to cure people knowing that most cures have not yet been invented. Fascinating!

Oh I do love Jane Austen books and my favorite characters from
Pride and Prejudice would be Lizzy and the Mother! LOL.
I could go on and on on this topic but I'll stop because I have to get going. LOL.
